Our client is a vertically integrated owner and operator of commercial real estate properties, focusing within affordable housing in the Texas market. The business has grown rapidly over the last few years and plans to continue this growth moving forward.Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Lead the accounting and financial reporting functions, including cash management, reporting to institutional investors and lenders, overseeing year-end audits and assisting the CFO with FP&A, including special projects as noted in the below duties
  • Serve as an asset manager for all firm investments, overseeing the firm's 3rd party property management provider
  • Assist the Assistant controller with monthly accounting and partner billback allocations
  • Manage day-to-day office functions including the Owner's personal and property/entity insurance renewals and claims, office management matters, Corporate Payroll and HR functions and all Corporate Travel
  • Maintain banking relationships, oversee construction draw process for new projects, and oversee construction accounting process for certain projects
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly, provide monthly general ledger maintenance, and oversee all financial functions for low volume tax reporting entities (assisted by Assistant Controller)
  • Produce quarterly consolidated financial statements across multiple holding companies for review and assist with requests regarding acquisition growth
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports of financial condition and cash flow projections
  • Prepare annual operating budgets for corporate office and owner's family estate
  • Assist in process improvement and streamlining operations
  • Audit review, income tax process management, and manage AR/AP + corporate functions
  • Direct supervision of Assistant Controller, Senior Accountant, and AP
  • Foster teamwork between accounting/finance and other functions

The ideal candidate will have a majority of their experience spent in the multifamily housing sector. Other sectors in commercial real estate will be considered. Other key qualities:
  • Controller Experience in CRE or Related Industry
  • 10+ Years of Experience
  • Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • MS Office Proficiency - Excel in particular
  • Real Page Accounting (Investment Management is a plus)
  • Excellent working knowledge of GAAP
  • At least 5 years of hands-on FPA/Accounting experience

Reporting to the President of the firm the Controller will be a key member of the leadership team with full responsibility for all finance and accounting operations. The Corporate Controller will implement structure around existing and new accounting processes, while not being afraid to challenge the status quo. The Firm has ambitions to grow its portfolio in 2024 and the Controller can play a pivotal role in supporting this growth.Strong basic salary plus bonus potential; base salary roughly $130,000 - $150,000 depending on experience.
