- Full-time
- Develop and validate highly sensitive and specific in vitro molecular assays (including LAMP) for the detection of pathogens associated with humans, animals, plants and other areas.
- Experienced on phylogenetic/genomic analysis for comparative analysis of the specificity (inclusivity and exclusivity) of the designed molecular assays.
- Contribute to scientific R&D projects through hands-on design, execution, and analysis of laboratory experiments.
- Conducting regular in silico analysis and reports of designed assays against evolving target pathogens, including design and maintenance of necessary bioinformatics tools, and reporting.
- Resolve complex technical challenges in line with clinical diagnostic assay requirements, while adhering to published regulatory standards and guidance.
- Accurately record and present scientific results through the completion of laboratory records, written reports, and presentations.
- Preparation and QC of master mixes and reagents for production of CE-marked and RUO products. Undertake additional ad hoc / project work as required.
- PhD in a relevant life science discipline such as Microbiology, Genomics, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry.
- Significant experience (5+ years) in molecular assay development and optimisation, particularly in the context of LAMP, and ideally within an IVD / diagnostics industry environment.
- Experience in relevant laboratory techniques including: PCR, LAMP, and nucleic acid extraction and optimization; processing biological samples.
- Experience working to strict quality standards and in regulated environments (ISO 13485, UK MDR, IVDR, etc.).
- A solid understanding of bioinformatics tools and methodologies, expertise in using computational methods to analyse genetic sequences.
- Experience leading projects and independently delivering against agreed timescales and outputs.
- An agile mind-set, happy working within a fast-moving R&D environment with evolving priorities.
- Excellent communication skills and a personable nature to support relationship building within the team and with key stakeholders.
- Laboratory experience in the following areas would be desirable: working in a regulated environment; infectious disease and antimicrobial resistance; precision serial dilutions; DNA sequencing; working with a containment level 2 facility; using automated molecular diagnostic systems; next generation sequencing; advanced multiplex applications; digital PCR.
- Experience line managing and/or leading /mentoring small teams would be beneficial although not essential.
