A Research Fellow is needed to work on a project to develop novel mass spectrometric monitoring tools, within the team MAIS; Mass Analysis In-Situ. The aim of the work is to develop new instruments to provide real-time mass analysis of gas sampled from plasma processes, or other processes. This role is within a small team working on the development led by Dr Tom Field in Physics at Queen's University Belfast (School of Maths and Physics, Centre for Light Matter Interactions).About the person:We are looking for a researcher with a PhD or equivalent in Physics, Chemistry or related area with experience in *some* of the following areas; Mass spectrometry, Electron beams/guns, Vacuum systems, Electronics, Computer programming, Data analysis/processing, Instrument building/CAD modelling, Development of vacuum apparatus / instruments, Molecular physics, Chemical physics, Physical Chemistry, Instrument development and/or Technology Transfer.This will be a varied role and while we do not expect candidates to have experience in all these areas, we expect candidates to be willing to learn new skills and be prepared to try new ideas.You will also bring to this role a positive attitude towards problem solving, data analysis and working in a team.This research and development project has industrial application so you will need to interact effectively with our industrial collaborators.
