Offer DescriptionThe project will be hosted by two laboratories; respectively the Molecular PhysioMedicine Laboratory (LP2M) for the biological aspects and the Nice Institute of Physics (INPHYNI) for the mathematical modeling part.
- The laboratory of Molecular PhysioMedicine is a mixed research unit (LP2M UMR7370) situated at the Pasteur Medical Campus which combines physiology of membrane transport, metabolism, immunology and inflammation to study human pathophysiology, from molecular mechanisms to acquired or genetic diseases. The Ion Transport and Metabolism team has been working since many years on the experimental parts of the project and the team leader (Laurent Counillon) has been involved since a decade in the modeling project with the colleagues of the INPHYNI Laboratory (Médéric Argentina and Yann Bouret, see below) The LP2M is fully equipped to measure and test all the parameters that will come from the model. (electrophysiology, ion fluxes, intracellular pH fast measurements…)
- The Nice Institute of Physics (INPHYNI) is a mixed research unit (UMR 7010) affiliated with the University Côte d'Azur (UCA) and the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). INPHYNI's activities are structured around three, principal axes: Waves and quantum physics; Photonics; and Nonlinear physics, complex fluids, and biophysics. Projects developed around these topics cover theoretical, fundamental, and experimental aspects as well as applications. These projects benefit especially from the support of technological platforms and efficient administrative and technical shared services. This interdisciplinary PhD project is funded by the CNRS (80 prime program) and has been awarded through a competitive process. It aims at producing the first fully tractable mathematical model of cellular and tissue ionic regulation, completely consistent from the point of view of chemistry, physics and biology. This type of model which strictly respects the conservation of mass and charge has been validated on a minimal cellular system. The objective here is to extend it by integrating diffusion, shape and intracellular compartments and then to model tissues by combining these cellular modelsRequirementsResearch Field Chemistry Education Level Master Degree or equivalentResearch Field Physics Education Level Master Degree or equivalentResearch Field Biological sciences Education Level Master Degree or equivalentLanguages FRENCH Level BasicResearch Field Chemistry » Biochemistry Years of Research Experience NoneResearch Field Physics » Biophysics Years of Research Experience NoneResearch Field Biological sciences » Biological engineering Years of Research Experience NoneAdditional InformationAdditional commentsCandidates should hold a Master in Computational Biology or in Maths or in Physics with a strong interest in life sciences and a minimal knowledge in biology/biochemistry and/or biophysics. An interest membrane biology and in transport membrane protein or biochemistry is essential, together with a strong motivation to learn and develop new methods.
