NOTE: A background check and employer/professional reference check are part of the selection process.POSITION: PART-TIME PROFESSIONAL LABORATORY ASSISTANT; Medical AssistingREPORTS TO: Program DirectorDEADLINE: Submit requested information by May 24, 2024 Incomplete applicant information will not be considered.EFFECTIVE: June 2024RESPONSIBILITIES:This position is responsible for assisting instructors with providing education and/or training to technical college students. Under general supervision, will prepare for each class laboratory session by preparing supplies and equipment for students; will assist individual students in the lab and class environment, including demonstration, testing, and grading. Will oversee and monitor laboratory space and/or computer lab; will assist in maintaining, problem-solving, and trouble-shooting with equipment or software within lab settings. Will assure adherence to safety and cleanliness standards, maintaining an effective and safe learning environment in which students can perform program-level tasks. Will prepare laboratory schedule as assigned, and enforce all lab policies, rules, and procedures. Will assist in collection and management of confidential student data. May coordinate student participation in health fairs, field trips, and community health services. May maintain inventory, order supplies/equipment, receive; stock shelves and cabinets. Will perform other duties as assigned by instructors.COMPETENCIES:· Knowledge of course standards, and skill/expertise in subject area· Ability to understand, accept and follow directions· Skill in the operation of lab equipment and/or computers· Appropriate oral and written communication skills that effectively communicate information to students who might function at the new, beginning, or advanced level· Ability to perform lab competencies, maintain accurate records, prepare lesson materials· Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel· Effective decision making and problem solving skills· Flexibility to adjust work hours based on the needs of the college, 7 – 15+ hours weeklyMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Current CMA (AAMA) or RMA (AMT) credentialORAssociate’s degree in medical assisting or related field and one year of experience in medical assisting ORThree (3) years’ medical assisting experience within last five (5) years ANDCurrent healthcare provider CPR certificationPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum qualifications & competencies):· Previous work experience in tutoring or instruction of students in a post-secondary environment· Familiarity with Blackboard LMS· Ability to work cooperatively with others in a fair and unbiased manner, and to maintain a pleasant, professional relationship with students and faculty/staff· Ability to keep up-to-date on clinical techniques and information, hardware/software, or lab equipment information, and to assist in making informed decisions in this area· Ability to work given policies and guidelines, with minimal supervision, and the ability to resolve normal work problems as they arise, and coordinate with the instructor issues that arise outside these parametersNote: No phone inquiries please.
