- Show patients to the examination room and prepare them for the provider.
- Obtain assessment of patients: measure and record patients height, intake and output and BMI; measure and record chief medical complaint and present illness, emotional status, social history and vital signs including blood pressure, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, pulse, temperature, and pain level. Communicate assessment of the patients needs to the provider and develop appropriate interventions under providers direction.
- Use verbal and non-verbal communication with patients and their families and recognize non-verbal communications in patients and their families. Observe, report and record symptoms and changes in data, family comments in response to care, environmental situations and behaviors related to the plan of care in a timely manner.
- Call in and secure prior authorizations from insurance companies.
- Regularly check AED machine for operability.
- Deliver accurate messages from patient to provider and provider to patient including requests for medication refills and questions about medications, treatment or care. Enter refill requisition into EHR in accordance with protocol, route it to the appropriate provider and follow up on refill per provider recommendation.
- Perform diagnostic procedures as ordered by provider including vital signs, physical screening exams, venipuncture, tissue or other laboratory specimens, including blood draw (phlebotomy); log specimens, perform/prepare them for testing; document finding; remove sutures and adjust dressings. Review results of laboratory and other diagnostic work and report abnormal results to the provider.
- Administer HIV, pregnancy, and other point of care testing as well as CLIA waived lab functions.
- Competent to perform vision and hearing checks and record them in the patient chart.
- Maintain clinic examination room supplies and cleaning. Prepare instruments and equipment for sterilization. Clean and package instruments for autoclaving and operate the autoclave.
- Perform the operation of electrocardiogram (EKG), spirometer, (if certified), glucometer and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests under the direction of licensed professionals.
- Provide patient with appropriate educational materials following the assessment of the patient or for pre-op and answer questions.
- Administer intramuscular, sub-q, and intradermal injections.
- Under direction and supervision of the provider, perform basic wound care and dress wounds, cast/splint application or removal and suture removal.
- Assist patient with self-administration of medications including nebulizers, PO and PAP medications.
- Make appointments and assist with front desk as needed
- Regularly support compliance and accreditation efforts as assigned including, but not limited to OSHA, Joint Commission and HIPAA and Behavioral Healthcare Network.
- Complete annual employee training requirements on a timely basis as indicated by agency requirements. Attend seminars, training and other educational opportunities in order to develop professional skills and abilities.
- Participate in all scheduled staff meetings, supervision sessions, and other departmental and agency meetings.
- Perform other duties as required by the primary care program such as processing specialty referrals, patient outreach and engagement, medical records scanning and inventory management.
- Medical Assistant: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Certified Medical Assistant: Currently certified as a Medical Assistant from an accredited certifying organization (NCCT or AAMA).
- Two years of relevant medical clinic experience is preferred.
- Six months’ prior experience as a medical assistant is preferred.
- Experience with Epic EHR is strongly preferred.
- Ability to work with individuals who have mental health challenges and/or substance use disorder challenges

- Ability to enter data and retrieve data and to prepare reports
- Staff must have the ability to assist the team in providing safety to all clients and staff in potential volatile situations
