You’ll be working with varied and diverse teams to deliver unique and unprecedented products across industries. The Lead Data Engineer will serve as a keystone on our larger projects, enabling us to deliver solutions hand-in-hand with consultants, data science specialists, and software engineers. The Lead Data Engineer is the universal translator between IT, business, software engineers, creative designers, behavioral science, and Data Scientists, working directly with clients and project teams. S/he works to understand the business problem being solved, the data required to do so, and the tools to make the data impactful. As a Lead Data Engineer, you will work alongside Oliver Wyman partners in the Digital and other practice groups, engage directly with clients to understand their business challenges, and craft appropriate solutions to be delivered by a multi-disciplinary team of OW Digital specialists and consultants.Your responsibilities will include:
  • Understanding the overall problem being solved and what flows into it
  • Building tools, platforms, and pipelines to enable teams to clearly and cleanly analyze data, build models, and drive decisions
  • Scaling up from “laptop-scale” to “cluster scale” problems, in terms of both infrastructure and problem structure and technique
  • Delivering tangible value very rapidly, collaborating with diverse teams of varying backgrounds and disciplines
  • Codifying best practices for future reuse in the form of accessible, reusable patterns, templates, and code bases
A suitable candidate will have:
  • Minimum 8+ years relevant with technical background in computer science, software engineering, database systems, distributed systems
  • Familiarity with statistics, data science, and machine learning
  • A compelling track record of designing and deploying large scale technical solutions, which deliver tangible, ongoing value
  • Direct experience having built and deployed robust, complex production systems that implement modern, data scientific methods at scale
  • An ‘engineering’ mindset, willing to make rapid, pragmatic decisions to improve performance, accelerate progress or magnify impact
  • Experience in financial services, technology, telecommunications or management consulting
  • Experience with several programming languages, different programming paradigms, and operating systems
  • A passion for technology and staying abreast of current and up-and-coming technologies
  • Experience in all stages in the project lifecycle
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • A pragmatic approach to data and technology decisions
  • Good team leadership experience
  • Commitment to delivering value and helping clients succeed
  • Ability to tailor your language to a technical or a non-technical audience
  • Comfort working with both collocated and distributed team members across time zones
  • Ability to codify best practices for future reuse in the form of accessible, reusable patterns, templates, and codebases
  • Experience in client facing commercial environment
  • Willingness for travel as required for projects
Mandatory skills and requirements:
  • Experience in building scalable solutions across multiple cloud providers
  • Experience in cloud architecture across multiple cloud providers
  • Experience in CI/CD for cloud deployments
  • Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, Open API’s
  • Experience in working within an Agile methodology
  • Extremely strong server-side development skills
  • Experience working with visualization software, example Tableau, Qlik, PowerBI etc
  • Experience with Spark, pySpark, Graph, Pandas etc
Desirable skills and requirements:
  • Certifications in AWS
  • Certification in DataBricks
  • Experience in serverless technologies
  • Experience in data tools, example Snowflake, Cloudera etc
