Job Description:OverviewThe Senior accountant will support various aspects of the finance department for the system. The candidate will need to be effective and experienced in the general accounting function. The position requires solid accounting experience combined with strong analytical skills.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior Accountant, you will work with both the finance and budget/reimbursement director. Your work will include the reconciliation process for various balance sheet accounts, conduct fundamental account analysis, and you will be actively involved in our monthly closing process:
  • The Senior Accountant is responsible for month-end close and monthly financial reporting:
  • Record financial transactions
  • Prepare and record journal entries by compiling and analyzing account information
  • Review, track, analyze and reconcile all information for accuracy and compliance
  • Analyze budget variances
  • Prepare monthly reports
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations in support of the financial statements
  • Prepare audit worksheets and reports
  • Prepare ad-hoc reports/analysis as needed by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends
  • Maintain accounting controls by following and/or recommending policies and procedures
  • Act as an adviser to Managers/Directors on financial formulation. Respond to department managers' inquiries regarding departmental reports. Participate in meetings as needed.
  • Exemplify a high standard of customer service.
  • Analyzes and reconciles expenditure and revenue accounts of major programs and capital projects.
  • Prepares journal entries and reconciles general ledger and subsidiary accounts.
  • Prepares monthly financial statements, including distributing monthly revenue and expenditure reports to departments.
  • Provide information to various federal, state, local and professional agencies.
  • Monitors revenues and expenditures for realization of and compliance with approved budget.
  • Assists and monitors staff accountant's performance.
  • Performs special projects and/or other work- related duties as required or assigned
QualificationsEducation:Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required.Experience:Minimum five (5) years relevant work experience, preferably in a healthcare or public accounting environment.Knowledge and Skills:Strong technical knowledge of the area being managed, often serves as the subject matter expert.Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel including macros.Experience/Knowledge of Lawson financial module (Infor).Ability to contribute to the continuous improvement of the quality and timeliness of the monthly financial statement closing cycle and associated account reconciliationsAbility to analyze revenue, salaries and benefits, and other than personnel services (“OTPS”) expenses.Physical Requirements:Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.The statements herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees, and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.
