- Summary for Skimming: The Officer of Strategic Philanthropy will have responsibility for building, developing, and managing a donor pipeline, with a particular focus on engaging financial advisors and private wealth advisors and their clients in leveraging GlobalGiving’s philanthropic programs and products. This role with the Growth team will identify, cultivate, and steward a pool of current and prospective donors to support team and organizational goals for impact, revenue, and organizational sustainability.
- Own the organization's goal for increasing funding to and via GlobalGiving by expanding our reach with specific donor segments to advance community-led giving.
- Accountable for achieving revenue and impact funding targets associated with audiences including DAFs, Foundations, Wealth Advisors and Managers, Intermediaries, HNWIs, and Estate Agents.
- Accountable for achieving revenue and engagement targets for GlobalGiving’s sustainability. This includes engaging donors in giving to GlobalGiving Funds, with a focus on operating support.
- Accountable for identifying and deploying strategies to optimize the strategic giving program by increasing revenue and/or the number of donors and institutional partnerships, adapting and adjusting product offerings, and identifying new opportunities to advance the strategy based on data and market intelligence.
- Responsible for the success of objectives and activities designed to advance the “investing in major donors” initiative as named in GlobalGiving’s 5-year strategic plan.
- Identify, research, and qualify a portfolio of prospective donors, most notably from the donors listed above.
- Solicit partnership and major gifts, with a focus on DAFs, Wealth Advisors, and Intermediaries.
- In collaboration with other departments, develop collateral, programs, campaigns, and events to engage and cultivate this donor segment. Adapt and/or create business development, communications, and marketing materials for prospecting this audience.
- Arrange and lead external meetings in collaboration with the Director of Partnership Development and other members of the sales team. Prepare compelling proposals and presentations tailored to donors’ interests and philanthropic goals.
- Plan connections with and facilitate relationships for this donor audience with key staff and leadership, such as executive team members.
- Participate and lead industry networking efforts that build GlobalGiving's profile as a leader in philanthropy. Represent the organization at internal and external events, establishing yourself as a “go-to” resource for individuals and advisors in the philanthropic community.
- Leverage tools and networks to make connections as well as identify opportunities to attract new partnerships, including but not limited to speaking engagements, educational/engagement events, and marketing campaigns.
- Maintain a portfolio of major donors with regular communication and engagement through meetings and phone correspondence with a focus on retention, increased support, and growing the number of products/offerings a donor engages with.
- Provide excellent customer service as primary contact for any partnership issues; partner with other teams (Product, Operations, Customer Service, Program) to ensure resolution; prompt response to external customer needs is paramount.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure we can operationally execute the parts of any individual giving product. Act as the point of contact for all invoices and agreements. Provide a seamless hand-off, if applicable, to the appropriate team members to deliver on commitments.
- Support the Growth team and the rest of the organization in times of disaster response to meet the urgent needs of impacted communities and the donors eager to support local organizations. This could include working after hours or over the weekend to ensure timely responses.
- Provide exceptional service to donors, intermediaries, and the nonprofit partners involved in the donor partnership.
- Maintain accurate records in Salesforce. Ensure all interactions are planned and tracked in the appropriate system.
- Track progress toward fundraising goals and evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising activities. Report back to teams and leadership as appropriate.
- Contribute to the organization’s emerging business and market intelligence efforts, keeping a pulse on relevant market intel and feeding that back into the organization for strategy.
- Participate in reporting efforts as needed for regular reporting both internally and externally.
- Utilize customer and market data to recommend enhancements to existing and develop new products and services that will grow the strategic giving program.
- Partner with the Program Team to provide nonprofit recommendations to donors based on their philanthropic interest areas.
- Ensure partnerships are efficient, leading to a positive investment and/or impact return, and advancing organizational goals for more equitable funding.
- Twelve or more years of experience in a growth-oriented position focused on donor engagement and major gifts, ideally with contacts and experience with DAFs, Wealth Advisors, and Intermediaries.
- Ability to conceive, plan, and execute a major gifts program to support organizational growth goals.
- A track record of success using various data sources to discover trends and inform donor segments, product development, and market positioning.
- Willingness to be hands-on in a role that is new and requires a high level of energy, creativity, and professionalism.
- Superior interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally with a culturally diverse group of colleagues and donors. Demonstrated experience working with Product Managers and Engineers a plus.
- Ability to communicate ideas effectively, to listen to others' ideas, and to collaborate to arrive at great solutions.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills and ability to prioritize workload in a timely manner to complete assignments with many deadlines and competing requirements.
- Experience working with a CRM tool such as Salesforce.
- An in-depth understanding of the various gift vehicles available to donors and their tax implications.
- Experience with DAFs, Wealth Advisors, and Intermediaries and specifically navigating this donor segment.
- A passionate belief in the mission of GlobalGiving and a
- Experience with giving platforms, and/or SaaS software a plus.
- Experience in creating and implementing giving initiatives and strategies such as board engagement, donor engagement, donor recognition programs, and special projects/campaigns.
- A continuous learning orientation (as demonstrated through professional development experiences) and an aptitude for coaching.
- A self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, complex environment.
- Proficiency with Google Suite and a working knowledge of search functions for donor research purposes.
- Proficiency in French or Spanish.
- Advanced certification such as Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP), Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), Advanced Certified Fundraising Executive (ACFRE).
