- Provide direction, motivation and technical support for all plant employees including production, mixing, shipping, sanitation, and maintenance personnel.
- Ensure proper training on all job requirements and employee compliance with all company policies and practices.
- Manage specific departmental responsibilities as determined by the Plant Manager
- Support and promote the company’s health and safety program, maintain a safe working environment and ensure continued compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and JHSC recommendations.
- Actively identify safety and ergonomic concerns with a focus on injury prevention
- Take an active role in WSIB and non-occupational return to work programs.
- Maintain quality and legislative requirements by adhering to and enforcing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Sanitation Standard Operation Procedures
- Ensure product quality and the training of employees on quality standards and procedures.
- Provide operational support for HACCP and other Food Safety Quality Assurance programs to maintain the required standards for quality, food safety and customer service.
- Work in partnership with QA Technicians to prevent and resolve any quality or food safety issues.
- Achieve daily expectations for the output of production including yields, volume, labour and material costs.
- Continuously improve the manufacturing process by supporting Six Sigma methodologies to identify opportunities for productivity improvement and waste reduction.
- Participate in plant improvement teams and Six Sigma projects as required.
- Measure performance and achieve Continuous Improvement in processes to implement cost reductions in labour, equipment utilization and raw material and packaging consumption while maintaining program standards.
- Contribute to teamwork and foster positive employee relations by communicating effectively with peers, employees and managers
- Oversee and document all plant Health & Safety, Food Safety, Quality Assurance and Sanitation issues and changes.
- Respond to employee suggestions and grievances in a timely manner and administer employee time and attendance issues, coaching, counseling and Corrective Action as required.
- Foster and maintain a positive union and labour relations environment and effectively administer the Collective Bargaining Agreement
- Other duties as assigned.
- Post secondary education or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum of 3 years previous production supervisory experience.
- Will be required to work shift work.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, verbal and written communication, presentation, and analytical skills
- Self-directed and professional.
- Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and Power Point
- Knowledge of HACCP, health and safety legislation, quality standards and Good Manufacturing programs and practices.
- Strong employee relations and problem solving skills.
