This will be a three year (renewable) appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.The Montreal Neurological Institute is internationally recognized for its dynamic, multidisciplinary clinical, academic, and research environment, which fosters clinical excellence, high-level teaching and clinical research opportunities. Many clinical innovations have been developed here over the years, and scientific discoveries are regularly made in neurology and neurosurgery. Every year, the hospital attracts dozens of doctors and researchers from a multitude of countries to learn about the latest advances.The Department of Anesthesia is a leader in academic medicine, our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs across our teaching hospitals. The Montreal Neurological Institute is part of the MUHC—one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.Job Duties:The successful candidate’s clinical responsibilities will include providing anesthesia and perioperative care at the Montreal Neurological Institute. The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).The successful candidate will join a dynamic group of more than 100 physicians, pharmacists, sub-specialists, and over 100 researchers practicing in over thirty specialties and sub-specialties. The incumbent will be expected to active participate in the Montreal Neurological Institute’s continuing professional development activities, as well as in various academic and research activities. They will also be expected to contribute to research programs in neuro-anesthesia and neuroscience to eventually take on a research leadership role.The candidate will also be expected to support the MNI’s mandate to provide high-quality patient-centered care and participate in clinical activities to which the Department of Anesthesia contributes. These include: oncological neurosurgery; epilepsy neurosurgery; functional neurosurgery (movement disorders); neuromodulation (for pain and spasticity); spinal surgery; vascular neurosurgery; peripheral nerve surgery; interventional and diagnostic neuroradiology program; advanced stroke program (tertiary center, offering emergency thrombectomy); and, neurological intensive care.McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.Qualifications and Education Requirements:Candidates must:Hold a medical degree and hold, or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;Be certified by the Collège des médecins du Québec;Have completed subspecialty training and be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);Have completed at least twelve (12) months of relevant complementary training;Applicants should have a strong and demonstrable interest in patient care, teaching, research, and innovation;Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec.
