Decision Analytics & Modelling - Operational Analytics - Executive - UK&I - LondonDo you have an analytical mind-set? Within Decision Analytics and Modelling we have established a rapidly growing analytics offering and are currently looking for exceptional individuals. We are rapidly growing our Operational Research and Analytics specialism within the team, an area that that applies a wide range of data analytics and Operational Research techniques to solve clients' physical and operational problems across all industry sectors.We work with major corporate and private equity clients, government departments and other public sector bodies, advising them on complex strategic corporate transaction activities (e.g. related to mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, asset disposals etc.) and commercial, financial and operational decisions.Our projects often involve managing multiple stakeholders and high degrees of complexity and uncertainty. Decision making in this environment requires strong client management and communication skills, in addition to rigorous analytical techniques and excellent data handling skills.Our work involves a varied portfolio of data analytics, Operational Research, transaction-related and performance improvement work, which would include complex data analytics for clients, database builds and management as well as bespoke model development to derive insight through data modelling and simulations, in a fast moving environment.Although the team is largely London-based, we operate as a national team and many of our engagements involve multi-national clients. This role will most likely require some travel within the UK and could require overseas working from time to time.Responsibilities
  • Actively be involved throughout the life-cycle of an assignment - requirements definition, specification, data collection, solution design, development, testing, documentation, implementation and user training.
  • Design and build complex models/algorithms and applying insightful visualisation to translate the solution into an easy to understand output.
  • Working directly with clients as well as other EY specialist teams.
  • Manage clients' expectations in relation to deliverables.
  • Identify risk on the assignment, involving Director / Partner appropriately in its resolution.
  • Take ownership of your tasks and work with junior team members and help develop their skills and technical expertise.
Skills & Attributes
  • A strong academic background, e.g. Degree in Operational Research or equivalent in a numerate or analytical subject.
  • Having strong technical experience is key and using these skills to build modelling solutions across a variety of techniques, e.g. simulation and/or optimisation.
  • Direct relevant experience of working within or providing specialist modelling/analytical support for operational performance improvement, or developing analysis underpinning strategic change.
  • Experience of employing visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau or Spotfire to display outputs in an easy to understand way.
  • Effective communication skills to be able to work collaboratively with a team, in a concerted effort towards delivering work products of the highest standard
  • Experience working with clients and model users to identify their particular needs, and solving client problems using data analytics and modelling.
Ideally, you'll also have some of the following:
  • Direct experience with Operational Research techniques such as discrete event simulation, mathematical programming or systems dynamics.
  • Experience in SQL Server, MS Excel and VBA.
  • Experience of analytical programming and data processing in languages such as R or Python is a plus
  • Technical familiarity in one or more of the following areas:
  • Supply chain analytics
  • Network optimisation
  • Workforce planning and people analytics
  • Resource/asset management
  • Some experience in coaching more junior staff to maximise performance.
