The Field Technician will perform field activities such as site investigations, inspections and assessments for Burns & McDonnell projects in a variety of locations. This position provides guidance and direction by utilizing knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and Burns & McDonnell policies and procedures. This would include but not limited to preliminary site survey control layout, topographical survey GPS survey, Lidar scanning of civil sites and facilities. Included would be download and manipulation of survey data into a useable format for design and observation.
  • Assist with site investigations, inspections and assessments within the project parameters.
  • Reviews project requirements and accurately determines the correct format and contents of the required deliverable.
  • Assist engineers in various technical aspects of conducting surveys and condition assessments.
  • Collect field data utilizing various types of monitoring and testing equipment for the site-specific assessments.
  • Create field reports and documentation of monitoring and testing results.
  • Compile technical data to be presented to Project Managers and senior staff to be used in providing design, rehabilitation or replacement recommendations.
  • Produce accurate and complete documentation of field data for use in engineering projects.
  • Solve technical problems related to the project parameters.
  • Verify installation, troubleshooting, testing, repair and maintenance of site monitoring and testing equipment.
  • Interface with client as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED Required
  • Associate Degree in science or related field Preferred
  • Preferred candidate should Possess a general understanding of site investigations, inspections and assessments with basic knowledge of engineering design, construction, and inspection.
  • Previous construction or consulting experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment working with, and supporting, project managers, directors, engineers, technicians, and site workers within the project.
  • Ability to work and maintain positive relationships with various governmental agencies, clients, contractors, residents, suppliers, technical experts, and consultants.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering maps.
  • Must have basic computer software knowledge (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point).
