- Bachelor's degree in safety related field strongly preferred and two (2) years directly related safety experience.
- Education may be considered in lieu of experience requirements.
- Master's degree in safety-related field and no experience.
- Professional certification pertinent to specific safety specialty is preferred and may be considered in lieu of degree with four (4) years of directly related safety experience.
- Pertinent Military experience may be considered for some of the required experience.
- Advanced degrees (Bachelor's or Master's) may be considered in lieu of experience requirements.
- Review life safety and fire protection plans and conduct inspections of various types of campus buildings according to the applicable fire codes and Joint Commission requirements. Must conduct the inspection in a professional and efficient manner and clearly communicate the deficiencies to the appropriate persons in writing. Research and apply the technical requirements of all applicable life safety and fire protection codes in order to appropriately answer questions from staff and contractors.
- Troubleshoot and perform maintenance/ repair work as necessary or oversee a contractor in order to maintain all campus fire protection systems.
- Develop, conduct, or supervise training courses tailored to appropriate departmental groups within UT Southwestern regarding fire safety.
- Adhere to work schedules in order to accomplish tasks and projects assigned by management.
- Prepare for, respond to, and mitigate emergencies which include but are not limited to fires, flooding, and hazardous materials incidents. The use of personal protective equipment including hazardous entry (flame and chemical) suits and respiratory protection up to and including self-contained breathing apparatus is required. Training to achieve and maintain certifications and participation in all types of emergency and non-emergency drills is required.
- Individual will be on-call or emergency situations may require the individual to respond to campus outside of set work schedule. This position is designated as essential. Personnel in designated essential positions are expected to report to work as required in the event of an emergency to sustain institutional services or protect assets.
- Performs administrative tasks to assist with program management and/or manage projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
