Equine Fellow VeterinarianVirginia Equine ImagingJob DescriptionThere is a covered lunge arena, sand lunge arena, tarmac job strip, and large sand arena on site for lameness workups. Practitioners consist of doctors A. Kent Allen, DVM, Certified ISELP; Susan Johns, DVM, CVA and Jack Caldwell, DVM. The caseload is comprised of horses of multiple disciplines including three-day event horses, hunter/jumpers, dressage, foxhunters, western pleasure, driving, racing, and others, being seen for lameness and/or poor performance evaluations and treatments. We also see a number of horses for pre-purchase exams as well as internal medicine diagnostics and treatments. The majority of clients are seen in-clinic, however there is often travel to several local performance horse farms for out-clinic appointments. We are also expecting to add CT and PET in the coming months.We are looking for a highly motivated Sports Medicine Imaging Fellow. Qualified applicants will have an outgoing personality, strong work ethic, and excellent communication skills. Candidates must possess at least one year of postgraduate clinical experience.VEI is a fast-paced environment so individuals must possess the ability to self-motivate, multi-task and handle direction professionally. We are a Monday-Friday practice with no emergency or on-call hours.The Imaging Fellow position will assist Dr. Allen and Senior Veterinarians in the daily operations of Virginia Equine Imaging by providing exceptional sports medicine veterinary care.The Imaging Fellow will help in the development of a beta unit standing CT and communicate with the CT company and CSU for further development. This will include imaging, data tables, proper settings, troubleshooting, and reporting back any issues, etc.Additional duties will include training/helping the incoming interns as to the day-to-day operations of the clinic, assisting in cases both under the guidance of Dr. Allen and the Senior Associates and in some select cases, as the primary veterinarian.Some skills with intra-articular injections and diagnostic imaging are preferred. Advanced imaging education will be taught during the fellowship.The Fellow will also be expected to assist in generation of papers from prospective or retrospective studies with VEI data as directed by Dr. Allen.This position will work closely with Dr. Allen in preparation of talks and presentations.Perform radiology clinical evaluations and assist with other imaging modalities in clinic and occasionally out clinic.The Fellowship salary is $75k for the year that they work, $5000 housing stipend, professional liability insurance, a clothing allowance, two weeks paid vacation, a CE stipend to one US based ISELP event, and medical insurance options.
