- Carry out periodic inspection of all Colas Rail traction and rolling stock
- Provide the Management team with written reports on vehicle condition and trends
- Carry out special checks and assist in carrying out modifications
- Provide technical support, assistance, and guidance to the maintenance teams
- Perform ‘in process’ and finished work quality checks and audits and to provide confirmation of vehicle readiness for operation after major repairs and overhaul.
- Assist in the investigation of defects and faults
- Provide input to the Asset Management System where required
- Collect and report against agreed KPIs on the performance of the maintenance activity
- Support the Fleet Engineers during technical investigations and compilation of technical and performance reports
- Attend satellite locations to assist in the recovery of complex failures
- Assist in the execution of the warranty process
- Acknowledge and work in line with the freight engineering RACI.
- Deliver competency on all relevant Colas Rail Freight vehicle types.
- Assist with the assessment of project requirements from a technical perspective.
- Deliver work in accordance with business management, safety, and quality systems.
- Assist in overseeing the manufacture of components/modifications and assemblies, including any testing and commissioning activities and Engineering changes.
- Undertake Duty Engineer ‘on call’ as per the on-call roster.
- Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time. As you will expect the organisation may change and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.

- Degree, Diploma, Certificate or Engineering qualification in relevant engineering specialism, or significant operational experience
- Apprentice trained and/or relevant engineering qualifications
- Full driving license
- Rolling Stock (locomotive and wagons) maintenance
- Ability to analyse, interpret and provide recommendations on engineering issues
- Experience in quality management, RAMS and asset management systems
- Very good planning skills
- Ability to work in a team and on an individual basis
- Clear communication skills
- IT literate
- Analytical skills for problem solving
- Multi skilled over several disciplines
- Ability to pass on experience and knowledge
- Skilled worker with long term railway experience covering locomotives and wagons
