- To work within the framework of the overall objective of Focus Ireland and the Focus Ireland values.
- To work on a relief basis as part of a team within the framework of the policies and procedures in place for the project or as directed by the project leader, assistant project leader or section manager.
- To participate in the development and implementation of care and placement plans.
- To support young people that have experienced trauma and that present with challenging behaviour.
- To refer and support young people referring to external agencies that may further assist them with the personal, social, educational, employment, legal and accommodation needs.
- To promote the participation of young people in decision making on issues that affect their lives at both individual and collective levels.
- To promote the rights and responsibilities of each young person within the service.
- To liaise with the parents, family, general services and other agencies on behalf or the young person.
- To record and maintain records on a relief basis in relation to the project and individual clients in accordance with statutory requirements and health and safety legislation.
- To attend and participate in team, review and agency meetings as required.
- To work in close liaison with and co-operate with other Focus Ireland projects.
- To undertake such other duties as might be reasonably assigned to you from time to time in consultation with the Manager.
- To observer all Health, Safety and Welfare at Work regulations and notify management of any risks or concerns you may have in relation to same.
- A Third Level Degree in Social Care
- Proven direct work experience in relief/part-time work in a social care setting
- Experience of supporting marginalised clients/groups, preferably adolescents
- A working knowledge and insight into the social issues that affect young people who have or are experiencing homelessness
- Ability to manage and support clients in crisis who present with challenging behaviours based on the values and principles of best practice in Focus Ireland
- Working knowledge and understanding of Child Protection
- A working knowledge and understanding of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention model
- A working knowledge and understanding of the National Standards for Children's Residential Centres
- Some experience of key working, assessments and care planning
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Reliability and flexibility
- Excellent report writing and IT skills
