- Assist in the coaching, mentoring, and implementation of the EH&S programs, at store level and Warehouse.
- Perform safety inspections and audits of stores recommend correction and/or additional precautions to ensure safety compliance.
- Advise and lead employees on various safety-related topics.
- Track and document accidents to understand causes and recommend changes to prevent future accidents.
- Collaborate with store management to establish safety goals.
- Train, manage and guide store safety staff.
- Participate and regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation and applicable standards to ensure compliance.
- Organize, communicate, and maintain reporting.
- Collaborate in maintenance and compliance of health department and safety records
- Suggests revisions to employee activity that does not meet health and safety codes. Ability to evaluate PPE and ensure proper use and maintenance of PPE.
- Ability to oversee Hazardous Waste Storage area and ensure regulatory agency compliance, i.e., labeling, containment, proper disposal, documentation, etc.
- Assist in emergency response and provide first aid treatment guidance as needed
- Review Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) as needed.
- Assist in administering and maintaining compliance programs such as LOTO, Hazard Communication, EAP, Hot Work, Respiratory, BBP, etc.
- Work in conjunction with Facilities & Maintenance to ensure equipment is functioning properly and ensure defective equipment is placed out of service.
- Support operations with safety training of employees from the various perishable departments in an effort to reduce frequency.
- Works on special projects as assigned.
- BA degree or comparable work experience
- OSHA 30 Certificate, CSP or ASP Certification, Diploma or Degree in EHS or Environmental Science from a recognized institute is preferred.
- Forklift Train the Trainer certified.
- 3+ years of experience as a Safety Specialist or related field.
- Experience and knowledge of Cal-OSHA regulations and other State and Federal regulatory requirements.
- Some knowledge of DOT safety requirements and regulations preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft programs including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet the demand of work deadlines.
- Must know about OSHA, knowledge of NFPA, Fire Pumps, and Fire systems preferred.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills.
- Must possess the ability to interact with store employees as well as executive management.
- Must have the ability to work independently while also maintaining supervisor(s) informed of projects and tasks to be completed.
- Must be highly organized.
- Must be professional, punctual, and possess strong communications skills.
- Able to make decisions and be a self-starter.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
