HUALAPAI PREFERENCEPosition: Assistant Controller - GCWDepartment: AccountingClassification: ExemptSalary Range: S7Supervisor: ControllerDisclaimer: Position Description is not meant to encompass all aspects of position, other duties may be assigned.Position Summary:Assistant Controller assists the Controller and Chief Financial Officer in planning, directing and coordinating the financial and accounting functions of Hwal`Bay Ba:J Enterprises, Inc (dba GCRC) corporation. Responsible for timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial statements for both organizations. Validates and approves month end closing activity for the general ledger and oversees all accounts payable and accounts receivable activity. Is responsible for the payroll and benefit processing and record keeping for both organizations. Ensures that established accounting policies and procedures are followed. Responsible for all cash and credit activity, both incoming and outgoing, validation of daily sales reports, deposits, journal entries, expenditure coding and balancing of accounts. Develops and analyses financial information necessary to assess the current and future status of the organizations. Compares actual financial results to budgets and works with department managers on variances. Directs and coordinates Accounting Department staff. Directs and participates in financial audits. Acts as a Hualapai ambassador at all times.Knowledge and Abilities:1. Minimum of 3 – 4 years in accounting or finance.2. Bachelors’ degree in Accounting. Degree in Finance or other business is acceptable if there is significant experience in the accounting industry.3. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.4. In-depth understanding of accounting software applications.5. Demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse population of employees and external contacts.6. Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, train, develop and motivate employees.7. Excellent oral and written communication and analytical skills.8. Ability to interact with Board of Directors, if needed, as well as make presentations to Executive Leadership. Demonstrated ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.9. Demonstrated ability to foster a team environment, multi-task efficiently and maintain positive working relationships.Duties & Responsibilities:1. Assist Chief Financial Officer and Controller in planning, directing and coordinating the accounting and financial functions and daily activities.2. Work with the CFO and Controller in establishing, implementing and communicating all accounting policies and procedures.3. Responsible for timely and accurate preparation and distribution of monthly and annual financial statements.4. Develop and analyze financial information necessary to assess the current and future financial status of the organizations.5. Validate and approve month end closing activity and oversee all accounts payable and accounts receivable activity. Responsible for the payroll and benefit processing and record keeping for both organizations.6. Ensure established accounting policies and procedures are followed.7. Responsible for all cash and credit activity, both incoming and outgoing, validation of daily sales reports, deposits, journal entries, expenditure coding and balancing of accounts.8. Compare actual financial results to budgets and work with department managers on variances.9. Establish and maintain relationships with individual or business customers and provide assistance with problems these customers may encounter.10. Evaluate financial reporting systems and accounting or collection procedures and make recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets or other financial control functions.11. Ensure all accounting employees are properly trained.12. Perform regular and timely Performance Evaluation discussions and documentation with members of team and promote team environment while providing individual growth opportunities for Direct Reports. Hold Supervisors accountable for completing Performance Evaluations and discussions.13. Foster team environment and assist team in handling escalated or difficult issues.14. Ensure that all communications are shared with employees in a timely and accurate manner, as appropriate.15. Keep Chief Financial Officer and Controller apprised of all issues and concerns. Fill in for Controller or CFO, in their absence, if needed.16. Perform other work-related duties as assigned.Qualifications:1. Excellent oral and written communication skills and analytical skills.2. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.3. Bachelors’ degree in Accounting, Finance or Business field with appropriate experience.4. 3 – 4 years in accounting or finance.5. Prior experience with Native American Business Enterprises preferred.6. Preference given to Hualapai Tribal members.Working Conditions:Typical office environment with occasional travel to various locationsApplicant must pass a pre-employment drug screen and extensive background check may be required.
