- Must be 18 years old.
- Possess a valid driver's license with two (2) years of driving experience and a clear driving record.
- Previous experience in ground maintenance operations and customer service.
- One (1) or more years' experience with native landscape maintenance or parks/forestry maintenance.
- One (1) or more years' experience with irrigation systems.
- One (1) or more years' experience with water conservation.
- One (1) or more years' experience in customer service.
- Ability to operate pickups, be trained to tow a small utility trailer.
- Ability to operate machinery and hand garden tools such as power tools, trimmer, lawn-mover, blower and rakes, shovels, and pruners.
- Ability to plant and water flowers, trees, shrubs, pruning using proper techniques.
- Knowledge of horticulture, irrigation and/or gardening.
- Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and ages
- Customer service skills, including the ability to actively listen, address customer needs, defuse tense situations, and maintain an open, flexible, and friendly demeanor.

- Basic computer skills in order to enter timesheet information into Oracle and basic knowledge of Microsoft products.

- Undertakes planting tasks, including annuals, perennials, trees, and shrubs.
- Performs garden maintenance duties, such as weeding, deadheading blooms, pruning, and hand-watering.
- Maintains hardscapes, including trash bins, neighborhood library box, and dog poop bags dispensers.
- Performs mowing duties as assigned.
- Loads and unloads garden waste for composting.
- Cleans, organizes, and maintains tools and equipment.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
- Occasionally assists with office tasks during inclement weather or engages in other conservation-related duties.
- Supports staff in conducting indoor and outdoor residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and multifamily water assessments.
- Participates in public outreach and educational activities to promote Water Conservation programs, and events.
- Collects and records field data, including water measurements, soil samples, and sprinkler clock schedules.
- Aids in leak detection for customers.
- Compiles and distributes water assessment reports.
- Offers public information regarding the City's water conservation and efficiency programs.
- May be required to travel within the city up to 50% of the time.
- Work outside with exposure to all weather elements.
- Long periods of time involved in planting, hand weeding and maintaining grounds using a shovel, rake and other tools.
- Field work requires abilities to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb ladders, use handheld tools, and measuring water and water attributes.
- Frequently exposed to wet and the/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts.
- Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical and plumbing materials, extreme weather conditions, and noise levels.
- Mix and use chemicals for weed and grass control following label and local regulations.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a group.
- May occasionally work alone and/or evenings or early morning.
- Hours may be flexible depending on assigned area, 40 hours per week, with weekends and evening as assigned.
- Exposure to vegetation that can cause punctures, biting insects, wildlife, off-leash dogs.
- Occasional office setting may be required and have the ability to sit/stand in positions utilizing a computer or related technology for extended periods.
- Occasional work in commercial buildings, including manufacturing, retail, office or any other non-residential buildings and residential homes.
- Communication skills to adequately convey information to contractors, property owners, managers, other personnel, and the general public, in writing and on phone.
- Vision enough to read computer screens and written documents to assist the public and complete work assignments.
- Manual dexterity enough to accurately input, retrieve and verify work assignments and to operate hand and power tools, move objects.
- Duties may occasionally require moderate to heavy physical effort that includes stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; frequent standing or walking; frequently lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds; maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks and frequently working with light objects and light hand tools.
- Ability to move over rough, uneven, and rocky surfaces.
