- Plan, coordinate, direct and control the functions of the Legal Department.
- Performance evaluation of your work team.
- Support the continuous improvement of the Quality Management System in the company through the design of new procedures, guidelines, or adjustment to the existing ones in the department.
- Follow up on customer processes according to the documentation submitted to the Panama Maritime Authority (PMA) or any other flag administration.
- Keep informed the office of the status of each process.
- Investigation of vessel records in flag administrations.
- Follow-up to the declarations of the ships to verify if there are observations.
- Safeguard and update the files / documentation of the ship.
- Prepare documents to be submitted to the Public Registry of Titles and Liens and follow-up applications. Request ships change of names when there is a final title registered.
- Prepare and present incorporations of companies in the Public Registry.
- Complete procedures in the PKI system or old system such as ship registration - availability of ship names, patent extensions and radio licenses. Request account statements or any change.
- Assist with other processes when required, as long as they are related to legal functions.
- Coordinate the payment of annual taxes for ships and companies, annual rate of resident agent.
- Identify and notify clients of any anomaly or penalty related to their ships.
- Perform any other related work that is assigned through the General Manager or CEO.
- Bachelor's Degree in Law. Emphasis on Maritime Law is advantageous.
- Advanced English: Written and spoken
- 10 years or more of experience as Legal Department Manager, leading staff. Preferable experience in Maritime Law.
- Knowledge in Law of the Sea or Marine Environment, laws that pertain to navigable waters, private maritime business, shipping and offenses that occur on open water would be considered.
