Are you a bachelor's or master's student in Applied Physics or Engineering looking for a graduation internship? Are you interested in optical diagnostic techniques? Do you have knowledge in plasma physics? Then this internship might be interesting to you! Background informationThe Plasma Physics group is part of the Research department of ASML. This group identifies and fills in technological gaps in the future roadmap of lithography and the lithography market. Our focus is on the interaction of light (13.5 nm) with the gaseous background in our tools and on advanced materials exposed to this environment. We work in small teams and deliver solutions that can be transferred to Development and Engineering. We work together with external research institutes and universities. The broad range of complex problems, the depth of understanding and the room to create new solutions makes the work in our group fascinating.Your assignmentFor this project in the Research Department, we investigate the use of cryogenically-cooled surfaces (cryo-panel) to generate an ultra-high vacuum for plasma test chambers. This investigation includes thermal impact and interactions with formed surfaces. Of particular interest is the question: "How such an extremely cold surface affects plasma generated in the chamber?'. We study ions and molecules in plasma with cavity ringdown spectroscopy (CRDS), an active spectroscopic technique. In this project your task will include, but not limited to:Experimentally establish the influence of a cold panel on the concentration and temperature of molecules and molecular ions as a function of the distance from the panel;Operate the plasma and CRDS tools to vary parameters and select the species to study;Contribute to the design of a measurement plan;Conduct the experiments, analyze and interpret the results with us;Document the results in a report and present them to the larger research community.Your ProfileTo be a perfect match for this internship, you:Are a bachelor's or master's student with a background in Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering or a related Engineering field;Have an aptitude for experimental work in a research lab;Have experience with data analysis and interpretation; Are able to contribute both individually and as a part of a team;Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written). This is a bachelor's or master's graduation internship for a minimum of 9 months, for 3-5 days a week, starting as soon as possible. Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship. This position requires access to U.S. controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such U.S. controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with applicants who are immediately eligible to access U.S. controlled technology.Other InformationDiversity and inclusionASML is an Equal Opportunity Employer that values and respects the importance of a diverse and inclusive workforce. You’ll gain valuable experience in a highly innovative environment – one that sparks your imagination and creativity. In addition to a monthly internship allowance of maximum €600 (plus a possible housing and free public transport), you’ll get practical guidance from experts in the field and the chance to work in and experience a dynamic team environment.ASML - be part of progressASML is a high-tech company headquartered in the Netherlands. We manufacture the complex lithography machines that chipmakers use to produce integrated circuits, or computer chips. What we do is at the heart of all the electronic devices that keep us informed, entertained and connected. Every day, you use electronics that simply wouldn’t exist without our machines.Behind ASML’s innovations are engineers who think ahead. The people who work at our company include some of the most creative minds in physics, electrical engineering, mathematics, chemistry, mechatronics, optics, mechanical engineering, computer science and fields which are not technical oriented. We believe we can always do better. We believe the winning idea can come from anyone. We love what we do – not because it’s easy, but because it’s hard.Students - getting ready for real-world R&DWe’re a global team of about 40,000 people of 120 different nationalities and counting. Headquartered in Europe’s top tech hub, the Brainport Eindhoven region in the Netherlands, our operations are spread across Europe, Asia and the US.In such an environment, your colleagues may be sitting next door, or they could be thousands of kilometers away in a different country – or even working for a different company. An internship at ASML is the opportunity to get to know not only the world of the semiconductor industry, but yourself – you’ll discover just what excites you most. Will you design a part of the machine, or make sure it gets built to the tightest possible specifications? Will you write software that drives the system to its best performance, or work side-by-side with the engineers of our customers in a fab, optimizing a system to the requirements of the customer? Anything is possible! How will you be part of progress?#ASMLCampus2023
