  • Carry a clinical caseload appropriate to the post
  • Client assessment, development and implementation of individualised treatment plans that are client centred and in line with best practice
  • Goal setting in partnership with client, family and other team members as appropriate
  • Ensure that privacy and dignity of the patient is respected at all times.
  • Communicate and work in co-operation with other team members
  • Develop effective communication with and provide instruction, guidance and support to service users, family and carers. Maintain good communications with Consultants, General Practitioners and community care team members for early discharge and adequate follow – up.
  • Document client records in accordance with professional standards and departmental policies
  • Maintain an accurate record-keeping system to comply with legal requirements, to support clinical studies and to provide information for data collection.
  • Provide a service in varied locations in line with departmental policy within appropriate time allocation (e.g. clinic, home visits)
  • Participate in review meetings, case conferences, ward rounds etc. as appropriate
  • Work within own scope of professional competence in line with principles of best practice, professional conduct and clinical governance
  • Seek the advice of relevant personnel when appropriate / as required
  • Operate within the scope of practice of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists
  • Keep abreast with current changes in clinical practice by attending in-services, seminars, conferences and post-graduate courses.
  • To comply with departmental rotational scheme.
  • Participate in weekend, bank holiday and on-call rota
  • Attend clinics, team meetings and ward rounds when necessary
  • Deputise for senior when necessary
  • Participate in performance management in line with departmental policy
  • Participate in performance review process with line manager
Learning and Education
  • Contribute to the requirements of professional practice relevant to Physiotherapy.
  • Take personal responsibility for own professional development and keep up to date with evidence based practice and research.
  • Attend and participate in staff development programmes on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist with the orientation and induction of new staff and be available to provide orientation as deemed necessary, helping them to integrate as members of the Unit team.
  • Assist in the training of nursing support staff together.
  • Identify and inform the Learning and Education Team of any training and professional development requirements.
  • Attend all mandatory training days and ensure that all mandatary training is in date.
  • Comply with all HR system and policy requirements.
Quality Improvement and Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Hermitage Medical Clinic guidelines, policies, procedures and relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in the continuous review and evaluation of policies, guidelines and existing practices through regular audit programmes and review engaging with the multi-disciplinary team where required.
  • Assist in promoting a culture of continuous quality improvement across the department.
  • Be aware of the core objectives, standards and key performance indicators for the service and contribute to the monitoring of performance against these standards.
  • Participate in the requirements of the hospitals accreditation process.
  • Participate in the requirements of the hospital’s risk management programme.
  • Promote the delivery of a high standard of care to all patients. Encourage evidence-based practice and assist in the dissemination and implementation of research findings.
  • Work with members of the Multidisciplinary team in devising Standard Operating Procedures for the development of the Unit.
  • Assist in ensuring a culture of safety, promoting positive reporting of incidents and near misses; investigate and take remedial action on incidents or near misses involving patients and staff according to hospital policies, protocols and guidelines.
Essential CriteriaQualifications
  • BSc degree in Physiotherapy
  • Diploma U.C.D. or Trinity College
  • ISCP/CORU recognised equivalent to above
  • Knowledge of the operational procedures in the Physiotherapy Department
  • Current member of ISCP or CORU
  • Experience in the areas of orthopaedics, respiratory and neurological physiotherapy
