JOB REQUIREMENTSAn enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with a strong interest in materials chemistry is required to join the Bishopstoke Special Cables Development team, working in the Analytical Laboratory to support cable production and development of in-house compounds and cable products.The Analytical Laboratory is responsible for problem solving production issues covering a wide range of materials, including plastics, rubbers, minerals and metals across all of the UK factories and occasional support to the global Prysmian Group.This position is primarily to support the Principal Chemist & Materials Innovation Manager by using an extensive range of techniques, including thermal analysis, spectroscopy, chromatography, microscopy and wet chemistry.Specific duties will include;
  • Operating analytical equipment and analysing results.
  • Carrying out wet chemistry experiments.
  • Analysis and testing of competitor cables.
  • Identifying most appropriate analysis techniques to aid problem solving.
  • Basic analytical instrument maintenance.
  • Support R&D materials development team.
  • Producing formal reports to present findings.
Skills and Personal qualities
  • You will possess good oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with peers and management.
  • You will need to be open minded and willing to develop your knowledge and skills to support your future development, with clear motivation and drive.
  • This is a hands-on role working within an Analytical Chemistry Laboratory, requiring a good level of numerical, logic, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • You will be IT literate (competent in using Microsoft Office).
  • You will be organised and work in a tidy, timely, and professional manner.
  • Have an excellent attention to detail and inquisitive approach to problems.
