Job Title: Engineering Lead - GTOContract Type: PermanentLocation: Edinburgh or Alderley EdgeWorking style: Hybrid 50% home/office basedClosing date: 12th May 2024We are currently seeking a highly experienced and motivated professional to join our team as an Engineering Lead within GTO at Royal London. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in leading the development and implementation of software solutions that meet the needs of our organisation and clients.The GTO Engineering team are responsible for supporting and managing the Azure Platform for Royal London Group. Defining and implementing a robust, scalable, secure, resilient solution, that is monitored and cost optimised. The purpose of this role is to lead a team of DevOps Engineers, to setup and manage Azure cloud infrastructure for the delivery teams. Ensuring best practice is adhered to and projects are delivered on time. This position requires a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.About the role
  • Lead and manage a team, providing direction and support to ensure the successful completion of projects.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve team productivity and efficiency.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment, encouraging open communication and knowledge sharing among team members.
  • Monitor project timelines and milestones, ensuring that projects are completed on time and within budget. Ability to see strategic long-term Platform build out and how we can manage to propel RLG modernisation initiatives. Identify and mitigate risks and issues, developing contingency plans as needed.
  • Able to provide training to other DevOps engineers, development teams and production support teams. Provide knowledge and experience on best ways to approach complex implementations.
  • Set clear goals and objectives for the team, regularly evaluating performance and providing feedback You will be able to mentor junior developers on best software engineering practices.
  • Strong trouble shooting skills around Azure networking, storage, databases, security, and cloud resources.
  • Experience working in a Scrum methodology delivering work in regular Sprints in an Agile environment.
About you
  • You will have Terraform experience, Azure Cloud, Azure DevOps using Git, CI/CD. PowerShell experience, with Networking experience.
  • Desirable experience: Azure SQL server experience, Microsoft .NET Technologies: ETL, SSIS, SQL Server, C#, API, and Python
  • You will have strong interpersonal skills enabling effective collaboration and effective engagement with stakeholders within RL and external third parties.
  • You will be a strong communicator, both verbally and written. As well, as strong organisational and analytical skills.
  • Able to work independently without supervision as well as, work as part of a team.
  • Familiar with agile principles and delivery practices.
  • Prepared to challenge with constructive ideas, holding firm and assertive position where necessary.
