This part time post provides an exciting opportunity to work with our team to make a real contribution to the provision of dental care services to Special Care Dentistry patients in Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.Applicants should have four years Hospital/Community experience of special care dentistry and be able to provide inhalation, IV and transmucosal sedation independently. They will have effective communication skills and have the ability to make independent clinical decisions when necessary. Applicants should also have experience in acute dentistry.Main duties of the jobThe postholder will be required to participate in Consultant Clinics, provide sedation and special care treatment sessions, work alongside colleagues in the care of patients under general anaesthesia and participate in the supervision of dental undergraduates and postgraduates within the University Dental Hospital and School.   • Experience of providing treatment under conscious sedation including transmucosal sedation
  • Working in a secure mental health setting

  • Commitment to Team approach and multi-disciplinary working
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken english adequate to enable effective communication about dental / medical topics
  • Understanding of Clinical Risk management and Clinical Governance
  • Up to date in current practices in Special Care Dentistry
  • Teaching Experience including postgraduate sedation teaching
  • Counselling skills
  • Ability to take independent clinical decisions when necessary and to seek advice from senior dentists as appropriate
