Reporting to the Data Engineering team lead within the Data Analytics program, the Senior Data Engineering Analyst will play a pivotal role in our organization's data strategy by designing, developing, and maintaining data pipelines, databases, and infrastructure.You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure data is collected, processed, and made available for analysis and reporting.   • Work with internal and external customers to develop and analyze business intelligence needs
  • Provide input into business requirements for the design of solutions
  • Interpret business requirements and determine optimum Data Engineering solutions, such as data pipeline, data integration, extraction, warehousing and monitoring
  • Identify and provide input into new technology opportunities that will impact enterprise-wide data BI systems
  • Take minimal requirements, design and present a solution, then construct it to a successful conclusion
  • Design corporate-wide views, custom dashboards and BI reports
  • Perform analysis for a wide range of requests using data in different formats and from various platforms
  • Research business problems and create models that help analyze them
  • Support and mentor business users on self-service delivery of business intelligence solutions
  • Mentor team members on BI business requirements gathering techniques, data modeling methodology including best practices, and on Tableau, Google Cloud Analytics, Business Objects and other related applications
  • Design and build the data pipeline and data model, ensuring it can answer the business questions
  • Lead work stream planning process including inception, technical design, development, testing and delivery of end-to-end business solutions
  • Determine feasibility of projects
  • Determine appropriate tools and methodologies for all phases of the project
  • Lead the planning, designing and execution of user efforts
  • Review test plans and monitor testing process to ensure business results are tested
  • Resolve any issues that are discovered based on test results
  • Ensure reporting solution requirements are complete, well-designed, built and tested
  • Develop and implement ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) for data mart/warehouse environment using Python, Google Cloud Fusion, Data Services, FME, or other BI tools as required
  • Participate in the maintenance of Data Engineering solutions or enhancements by completing tasks such as design, coding, testing of analytical solutions, end-user support, performance tuning, documentation, and troubleshooting
  • Identify and address performance bottlenecks in data pipelines and web applications. This may involve optimizing SQL queries, improving ETL processes, or enhancing frontend performance
  • Provide backup for DE team lead and other team members as required
  • Provide specifications and guidelines to other analysts
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Related Degree in a related discipline and 4+ years relevant experience, OR
  • Related Diploma and 5 yrs related experience, OR
  • 1 yr related certificate and 7 yrs related experience
  • A minimum of four (4) years progressively responsible experience in a BI technical role within a large, complex organization
  • Demonstrated experience in business intelligence administration, security, analysis and design
  • Experience in Google Cloud Analytic Software, Tableau Software, Business Intelligence suite of tools such as Web Intelligence, Data Services, Data modeling, and Crystal Reports or equivalent
  • Familiarity with Linux (Ubuntu flavor) server environments
  • Comfortable working in Windows, Linux and Cloud environments
  • Understanding of backend APIs
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and database management systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MS SQL, MySQL, NoSQL databases)
  • Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, and responsive web design principles
  • Familiar with Frontend frameworks such as React, and Angular development
  • Proficiency in developing backend with Python frameworks e.g. Django, Flask or FastAPI
  • Expertise in using SQL in RDBMS including Oracle, MSSQL and PostgreSQL
  • Familiarity with data warehousing solutions (e.g., GCP BigQuery, Snowflake) and cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure)
  • Experience with ETL tools and data integration techniques
  • Technology-specific certifications and diplomas related to the work would be considered an asset
  • Ability to understand the business needs and translate those needs into operational support and reporting tasks
  • Ability to analyze complex information and make timely decisions using solution based problem solving
  • Fully understands the importance of security to own work and the operation of the organization
  • Proven planning and organizational skills to manage project delivery
  • Demonstrated skills in facilitation of groups with competing interests and priorities
  • Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills with experience in solving complex and sensitive issues
  • Strong communication (speaking, writing, presenting, drawing, facilitating) skills, including report writing and presenting with an ability to articulate and translate technical language to non-technical customers
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to develop strong relationships and work in a collaborative, integrated manner
