- 1st piece set-up/inspection against engineering drawing and transferring all necessary information to the operation to ensure efficient and accurate production run.
- Must perform all necessary/routine QC checks during set-up and if any problems occur during run.
- Work closely with Supervisor and Team Leader to ensure proper priority of work is performed according to the job board.
- May be responsible for organizing, sharpening, and maintaining tools, dies, etc.
- Trains and/or instructs operators following Supervisor’s instructions.
- Plans ahead (material, fixtures, paperwork) so the next job is set-up prior to completion of existing jobs.
- Performs routine set-up and troubleshooting.
- Maintains the machine tooling by routinely cleaning and checking the tools.
- Communicates with Supervisor or Team Leader about any problems and the priority of setting up the next job.
- Conducts basic quality checks within the parameters of the position.
- Makes routine adjustments, up to and including tools at time to assure parts are within tolerance.
- Must check parts to print using proper QC measuring equipment.
- Load/unload machines and may check basic cross-reference information to assure the correct part is being processed.
- Perform any lower-level duties such as filing, sanding, etc.
- Can work on any job within the department set up and trouble shoots jobs.
- Works responsibly and efficiently adhering to all safety rules and policies.
- Assures that basic quality checks are performed at specific intervals on machine parts.
- Works responsibly and efficiently, adhering to all safety rules and policies while maintaining good housekeeping practices.
- Inform area management of any hazardous situations in the work environment.
- Perform any other duties required by Supervisor/Fabrication Manager to ensure realization of departmental and corporate goals.
- Good motor coordination, including sequencing and processing parts.
- Participate, and as required lead Continuous Improvement Teams.
- Complete clean-up responsibilities and maintain workstation according to 5S procedure.
- Understand workplace hazards and take steps to proactively prevent and report hazards or injuries in the workplace. Cooperate in safety programs, initiatives, and investigations.
- Perform other duties deemed necessary to support the Company’s business operations.
- Basic math skills, communication and troubleshooting skills
- Demonstrated ability to use and interpret measurement tools such as tape measure and calipers
- Ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings, BOM’s and associated procedures
- Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision
- Flexibility and willingness to adapt to frequently changing priorities/tasks
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
- Basic math skills and problem-solving skills
- Ability to set-up and operate some of the CNC equipment
- Ability to identify, participate, lead, and communicate basic process improvements
- Works well in a team environment
- Capability to train others in manufacturing CNC techniques
- Provide training to other associates
- Proven reliability – attendance and punctuality
- Must understand basic lean principles - 5S, Kanban
- Ability to read, write and speak English is preferred
- High school diploma, GED or technical Certification preferred.
- 4 or more years of previous experience in operating specific specialized equipment or 3 years of demonstrated experience operating and setting up CNC equipment.
- No previous work experience is necessary for this position
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand for 8 hours/day while making coordinated movements of the hands and fingers to grasp/pinch, manipulate and assemble objects. This may include frequent use of vibrating/pneumatic tools, overhead and outstretched reaching with arms, bending/twisting/stooping, kneeling/squatting and frequently lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. throughout the day and occasionally push/pull/lift to 100 lbs. as needed. Although on a regular basis lifting requirements may not exceed 40 lbs. Occasionally, depending on the tasks assigned for the day, you may have to sit or stand more or less frequently. Work may be repetitive in nature.
