- Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs of students.
- Creating a structured, safe, and nurturing learning environment that promotes communication, independence, and confidence.
- Using alternative communication methods such as Makaton, PECS, AAC devices, and visual supports to facilitate learning.
- Building trusting relationships with students, ensuring they feel valued, understood, and supported.
- Working closely with speech and language therapists, SEN specialists, and teaching assistants to develop targeted support strategies.
- Fostering life skills and independence, preparing students for their transition into adulthood.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or pending QTS (for ECTs).
- A strong commitment to SEN education and a belief in ‘unconditional positive regard’ for all learners.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt teaching strategies to support non-verbal and minimally verbal students.
- A resilient, empathetic, and nurturing approach, able to handle challenging situations with patience and understanding.
- Experience working with SEN students, either in a school setting or through voluntary roles, tutoring, or placements.
- Paid according to the Main Pay Scale (MPS), ranging from £31,650 to £43,607, depending on experience and qualifications.
