Job Views 12DescriptionWe are currently working with a major national consultancy as they look at add a Principal Structural Engineer to their division in Basingstoke, Hampshire.This consultancy is currently experiencing rapid growth with exciting opportunities and are looking for a flexible, practical engineer who can grow with the company to achieve the goals of the business in parallel with their personal ambitions.The position requires a Graduate BEng or MEng Engineer ideally with a minimum of five years' experience in Structural Engineering. Ideally, the candidate should be Chartered or near Chartered. They would also like a candidate who is keen to diversify and encompass the scope of their project remits which cover domestic and commercial structures as well as temporary works in both the public and private sectors.You will be be conversant with engineering software and have good knowledge of AutoCAD. As an Engineer you will be expected to take ownership of some projects within your remit, interacting with the other Engineers and Technicians within your team. The Engineer will be supported and supervised by the Associates and Directors within the office and work in close conjunction with the other offices. The ideal candidate should be proactive, dynamic and intuitive, happy to work on their own initiative as well as being a team player and interacting comfortably with the other staff members ad the wider design teams.The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual who can manage a project, with oversight, from proposal phase to construction administration.You will be mentored and supported through close links with senior professionals and directors of the business to ensure you reach your potential.The opportunities in this position are limitless, with the view that you will organically develop and grow your own team with direct reports and a clear trajectory towards becoming an Associate Director.The role will include but not be limited to
  • Design of civil and structural schemes
  • Review and checks of other schemes prepared by others
  • Carrying out inspections and surveys of structures and preparing reports
  • Undertaking feasibility / option studies
  • Preparation of project programmes
Responsibilities
  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, design analysis and construction cost estimates
  • Perform construction related services including shop drawing reviews, response to requests for information, periodic construction site observation, and occasional specialised structural inspections
  • Collaborate with architects and designers and building contractors on design and construction of projects
  • They value practical skills that enhance the designs with buildable detailing.
To be considered for this structural design role we require the following experience, qualifications, skills, knowledge and attributes;· Relevant Civil/Structural Engineering degree· 5+ years' experience (ideally)· Full UK driving licence and own transport would be useful but not imperative· Eligible to live and work in the UK and high standard of written English· Excellent written and verbal communication skillsCompany benefits include 25 days of holiday, your brithday off, as well as the option to purchase an additional five days.
