Spectrum Resource GroupJOB SUMMARY: Wright Canada Holdings, operating as the Spectrum Resource Group, is seeking a camp Head Chef for the 2024 planting season beginning mid-April through to mid-August. We have 14 million seedlings to plant! Tree planting is one of the toughest jobs on the continent and a skilled and experienced team is required to provide healthy and nutritious meals for the workforce. Compensation is competitive, based on industry experience and paid as a day rate. Come join the management team of one of the longest running and most reliable tree planting companies in the country!Spectrum’s Head Chef compensation is competitive with other tree planting companies with statutory holiday pay and vacation pay in addition to your offered rate.Spectrum’s tree planting camps are remote bush camps. Spectrum tree planting camps have a mobile kitchen where meals are prepared, dining tents, bathrooms, shower facilities, first aid rooms, drinking water and Starlink internet access. Shift schedule is 3 days on, 1 day off rotation but are subject to change as the Head Chef. The Head Chef will report to the camp supervisor, we maintain a proactive approach to safety and injury prevention with camp first aid attendants and training from industry leading physio therapists on injury prevention and management techniques.The Reforestation Head Chef primarily prepares nutrient dense meals for the 70-person tree planting staff which consists of a hot breakfast, a lunch spread for self-serve bagged lunches and a hot dinner with desert. The Head Chef is also responsible for menu preparation, cleaning the kitchen area and maintaining compliance with health regulations, budget tracking, and management of their assistant(s). Ideal candidates have strong leadership skills, can thrive in a remote setting with potentially limited tools and perform well under pressure.The Head Chef is responsible for bringing their own sleeping accommodation (e.g., tent, trailer), personal items including clothing, footwear, and toiletries. Spectrum has opportunities to continue working beyond the tree planting season.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Report to and follow instruction from the camp supervisor.Ensure a safe and productive working environment for employees.Accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions.Shopping and submitting food orders to suppliers.Budget tracking.Delegation of tasks to kitchen staff.Implement the food safety management plan, maintain kitchen area, dining area and storage area in a clean and tidy condition that promotes good safety practices and is in compliance with health regulations.Monitor and record fridge and food temperatures.Work area inspections, submission of applicable OH&S regulations.Package and secure kitchen for transport between camp locations.Participate in drills as required.Maintain vehicles and equipment as requiredMotivate and inspire those on your team to perform to their fullest potential.Safely operate large trucks on resource roads.Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings.Comply with applicable federal, provincial, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintain knowledge of and follow all company policies and procedures.Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Spectrum and Wright Canada Holdings culture of safety and employee ownership.Position will require travel.During emergencies or natural disasters, may be required to be on duty for the duration of the disaster.Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Minimum 1 season of experience cooking in a tree planting camp.Experience with food budgets and ordering from suppliers.Decision making skills.Basic math skills.Commitment to spring and summer plant (Early May to mid-August).Valid British Columbia Class 5 Driver’s License and a current Driver’s Abstract.Experience driving large trucks.Ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing environment.Self-motivated and the ability to work well individually and as part of a team.The physical ability to perform highly demanding role with the ability to carry 50+ pounds.Organization of equipment before, during and after shifts will be required.Demonstrate excellent focus on rapport-building, listening, questioning and patience. Communicate effectively with all levels of employees.Willingness to work, enjoy, and live in a remote setting.OFA level 1 or greater is considered an assetAbility to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties, understand instructions/information and to interact and communicate with employees, clients, and vendors.Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing required for safety sensitive positions.
