Overview & ResponsibilitiesPURPOSE OF THE JOBTo plan and direct the activities of and provide technical leadership for various Engineering projects involving the design, development, application, evaluation and advancement of the product(s) produced. Has technical responsibility for assigned functions. This position deals with research and product development activities of cryogenic pumping and liquid/flashing expander applications. FEA and CFD expertise utilizing ANSYS (Workbench, CFX) is required as well as fundamental structural, vibratory, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, materials knowledge along with understanding of industrial standards such as API machinery standards (API 610), ASME/ASTM, Hydraulic Institute, and the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and any other guideline or industrial norm applicable to pumps and liquid expanders.BACKGROUND and EXPERIENCERequires a Bachelor's degree in engineering while a Master's or Ph.D. degree in Engineering is preferred. Requires 15 years of relevant engineering experience. Post graduate educational experience (M.S. or Ph.D.) will be considered in lieu of work experience dependent on the relevance of the curriculum and post graduate work.Requires specialized training and experience in structural design and analysis using Finite Element Analysis and other structural and rotordynamic codes (XLROTOR).Knowledge of hydraulic component design using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and/or other computer codes is desired.Knowledge of system assemblies for pumps/expanders, bearings, shaft supports, thrust analysis and equalizing mechanism, casing design, rotordynamics, machine startup, commissioning and field operation is desired.Requires basic knowledge in the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs such as Solidworks/Creo.Must have experience providing technical direction and expertise in assignments.Must communicate clearly and effectively utilizing basic management principles.Demonstrate effective judgement and independence of action.Have or obtain knowledge of company policies, markets, organization structure and procedures.Have or obtain knowledge of design of pump and expander hydraulic, structural, rotating assembly components.SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/COMPETENCIESPlans, budgets, schedules and performs engineering assignments toward specified objectives within allocated time, schedule, cost and constraint established by supervision.Implements analytical, experimental and application programs for product improvement and development.Co-ordinates and communicates with all related departments to insure proper achievement of specific objectives.Independently initiates, develops, applies and tests designs for new products, special application/systems and existing products/systems improvements.Independently plans, prepares and executes experimental program for the development of new or existing products, shop order tests, design procedures, method or systems and issue applicable documentation.Initiates changes to existing component designs and selections as required for shop orders product improvements, manufacturing considerations and field modifications.Plans, organizes and completes major elements of the technical plan which may be performed by early career engineers.Directs those performing the assignment in the calculation and analysis of data and final reporting.Provides technical information, co-ordinates and follows up in intra/inter- departmental activities to insure conformance to design and quality standards.Approves layouts and drawings for assigned projects or shop order tests, issues appropriate documentation and informs supervision of activity status.Provides specialized technical support/information to Sales, Project Management, Marketing and Service as assigned.Provides innovation and original ideas. Collaborates with corporate patent department on new turbomachinery application/user requirements.
