- Independently underwrite and price moderate to highly complex business in accordance with corporate, divisional and department guidelines and philosophy.
- Underwrite new and renewal business, including all tasks associated with risk and coverage analysis and pricing, and provide recommendations for proposed terms within delegated underwriting authority.
- Review primary policy, contract and endorsement wording and ensure accuracy and conformance with guidelines
- Demonstrate and maintain enhanced technical product and underwriting expertise.
- Refer all business outside of delegated underwriting authority to appropriate referral underwriter.
- Develop and maintain strong market presence by developing client and broker strategies
- Provide responsive service on all broker and direct client requests.
- Monitor profitability of assigned clients and brokers, developing strategies or action plans to propose corrective actions as needed.
- Lead departmental projects related to the development and implementation of underwriting strategy.
- Promote the Group's capabilities and competencies externally
- Demonstrated proven negotiation skills and the ability to influence internal stakeholders
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of pricing models, tools and other risk evaluation models
- Participate in peer reviews of team members' accounts
- First and foremost, you demonstrate a natural desire to provide exceptional client service through their energy, enthusiasm, and initiative.
- Post-secondary education with a focus on business.
- CIP/FCIP/CRM designation or progression towards would be an asset.
- 5 to 7 years of experience underwriting property insurance, preferably including construction, operational power, energy & mining.
- Prior experience with operational power, heavy manufacturing, energy, mining, construction and civil projects would be considered an asset.
- Solid grasp of commercial insurance products combined with good knowledge of the insurance industry.
- Ability to build strong relationships with both clients and colleagues
- High degree of drive, self-motivation, continuing development and proven ability to work independently.
- Strong analytical, negotiating and investigative competencies.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong collaboration and team building skills.
- High degree of flexibility and adaptability to changing environment and situations.
- Strong computer ability, specifically with MS Office Products
- Ability and willingness to travel.
