We are looking for a highly motivated, ambitious professional to develop into an Underwriter Facultative Property underwriter, or - depending on the candidate's pre-experience - advance his underwriting career.About the RoleYour job will focus on evaluating, underwriting, and originating facultative property business in EMEA, primarily in the UK national and international market. This role is in Zurich and part of an underwriting team covering the UK/Ireland, Middle East and African property fac markets. You will assess a wide range of risk types with your experience and by utilising state-of-the-art models. Next to underwriting, your role also entails fostering client and broker relationships, as well as turning portfolio level data insights into origination, underwriting and account management actions. You own your accounts end-to-end, supported by powerful business servicing and analytics functions.Within Swiss Re you will collaborate with key account managers, client managers, market underwriters and treaty underwriters in a cross-functional team, for a holistic view on our clients and markets, and to deliver the best of Swiss Re to our clients.This role offers you lots of space to build and advance your commercial mindset and build a thorough experience in property reinsurance in a vibrant reinsurance market.About the TeamAs an integral part of Facultative Europe, we're a diverse and international team of very experienced underwriters with long-standing relationships into our markets. You have analytical capabilities to exploit our rich portfolio and market level data. At the same time, you are empathetic, curious to learn, and willing to constructively challenge. You are attracted by working in an international environment. Moreover, you have:
  • University degree preferably in Engineering; Science; Economics; or equivalent work experience in a quantitatively oriented profession
  • Professional experience in e.g. underwriting in re/insurance, risk or nat cat modelling, quantitative analytics, industrial engineering, claims handling is a welcome asset
  • Entrepreneurial and solution-oriented spirit, assuming accountability from end-to-end for tangible outcomes, balancing analytical rigor with "can do" pragmatism
  • A track record of and continued hunger to learn in all aspects of a new role and an ever-changing market environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proficient in English, any additional language is an asset.
