About the roleBalfour Beatty has an amazing opportunity for a System Safety Manager to join our amazing Major Projects team to work at our iconic Old Oak Common development in London.HS2s new c. 1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UKs best-connected rail
station once completed. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.Upon completion, the new station will boast six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. Old Oak Common will also provide highspeed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, and the North, as well as direct services to three major airports. Incorporating passenger and retail facilities, the new station will provide an exceptional customer experience for both passengers and visitors to the station.As a System Safety Manager you will manage the implementation of CSM-RA across the project lifecycle. Developing and maintaining the HS2 BBVS System Safety Management Plan. Ensuring that the BBVS Systems Safety Management Plan is implemented with the BBVS Project and BBVS Subcontractors and managing the implementation of the Technical Specifications for InteroperabilityWhat you'll be doingSome key responsibilities will be:
  • Management of, production, ongoing maintenance of the SSMP, SD, SSSR (SJR) and hazard record to acceptance by HS2, NR and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Managing and coordinating the WSP system safety team.
  • Managing and coordinating System Safety in respect of contributions made by BBVS subcontractors.
  • Manage the system safety interface between BBVS and HS2/NR,
  • Lead review WSP and subcontractor SS deliverables, inc Work Package specific submissions.
  • Managing scheduling of SS deliverables activities.
  • Manage construction sequence and methodology in respect of system safety.
  • Managing Hazards to completion and managing residual risk.
  • Manage the implementation of TSIs on the project.
  • Manage the coordination with HS2, also regarding consultation with the NoBo
Who we're looking forYou will have the following:
  • Chartered Engineer/Membership of an appropriate professional institution or the equivalent experience
  • Infrastructure Project experience 10-15 years including the application of the Common Safety Method (CSM) for risk evaluation and assessment within the UK rail industry
