Compensation commensurate upon experience: $65,000-$110,000Position OverviewDwight School, an innovative preschool-grade 12 coeducational school on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, is currently offering in-person and remote academic programming for the 2024 - 2025 school year. We are seeking a self-directed, experienced, and energetic Science Teacher to begin in August 2024.Responsibilities
  • Foster a community where students are encouraged to learn, think, and act as a scientist.
  • Designing, developing and delivering lessons that are student centered, engaging, hands on and inquiry based.
  • Communicating effectively with students, parents and other teachers.
  • Grading efficiently and delivering regular feedback to students and parents
  • Establishing classroom, lab, and field trip rules and regulations and ensuring that all students understand what is expected of them.
  • Creating an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions.
  • Display a commitment to diversity and creating a culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging in approach to teaching and learning, as they are recognized and valued by Dwight
  • Complete an online anti-bias training program in the first year of teaching
  • Participate in one after-school activity two out of three trimesters a year
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Science Education, or a science-related area required
  • Master’s Degree in Science, Science Education or a science-related area recommended
  • Minimum of two year’s prior teaching experience in a Middle School setting
  • A record of success teaching to a range of learners
  • Experience with inquiry based learning in a Science class
  • Experience with the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program preferred, but not required.
  • Experience teaching to a range of learners
  • Eagerness to contribute positively to the Dwight community
  • Willingness to engage with and learn from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Ability to bring joy, kindness, maturity, and flexibility to the school environment
