Under general supervision of the Facilities Management (FM) Director of Maintenance and Infrastructure, ensure the efficient operation of the University by performing various plant operations duties including maintenance of fire life safety systems.Position Specific AccountabilitiesConduct tests on automatic alarms, smoke detectors, and fire sprinkler systems incorporating electrical transmitters, flow switches, and alarm bells.Evaluate, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment. Determine if external resources are needed and coordinate as appropriate.Ensure communication with digital alarm communicators (DAC) and control panels.Coordinate testing of fire alarm system, with building occupants and management.Coordinate testing of standpipe and sprinkler systems with building occupants and management.Coordinate and participate in fire watch duties with project managers, contractors, and the department of Campus Safety and Security (CSS/DPS).Oversee and ensure proper completion of work performed by team members, contractors, and train staff on proper procedures.Serve as a technical advisor on systems programming and configuration, as well as coordinate code requirements with local fire marshals.Interact with City Inspectors.Call for inspections at the proper time and perform any corrective action required.Supervise testing and inspection of all fire extinguishers campus wide.Requisition parts and related supplies.Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.Perform a variety of basic manual Plant Operations tasks, maintain the cleanliness of work areas and building systems.Represent LMU at various construction project meetings, job walks with vendors, and at professional organizations or associations, serve on committees as required.Provide customer service to LMU community members as well as and external customers as appropriate. Meet customer needs; propose informed, experience based solutions, provide ad-hoc problem resolution; and follow up with customers and FM department leadership.Maintain a friendly, helpful demeanor consistent with LMU service standards when resolving issues.Perform other duties as assigned or requested.Loyola Marymount University ExpectationsExhibit behavior that supports the mission, vision, and values of the university. Demonstrate a commitment to outstanding customer service.Requisite QualificationsTypically a High School diploma, trade school certificate or equivalent experience. Contracting license preferred. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.Minimum 3 years of proven fire-life-safety systems experience.National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) Fire Inspector certification or Certified Fire Alarm ITM Specialist (CFAITMS) or equivalent is preferred.Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of: shop mathematics, blueprint reading; operation and mechanics of control devices.Should possess a working knowledge of applicable electrical and fire life safety codes and observe safety regulations governing industrial equipment and personal conduct.Perform a variety of general maintenance and repair work. Must be able to properly and safely use equipment and tools.Ability to read instructions and follow written and/or verbal instructions; effectively work independently as well as part of a team. Interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills; effective and timely problem-solving skills.Sufficient math skills to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral).Requires valid California driver's license.
