You can be based anywhere in the country but the role will involve travel and lodging away from home.Your role will be to prepare the rail grinding machine, assess the work requirement and to ensure the plan is achieved to meet the required specification whilst maintaining all health, safety and environmental safeguards, working to the VMI and operational manual.Person Specification
  • Recognised formal apprenticeship in Mechanical / Electrical engineering - ideally NVQ level 3 or equivalent
  • To have achieved the core competencies of Foundation Course, Machine Setup and Pack Away for Operation Grinding Rail grinding maintainer for Operations /Maintenance competence matrix.
  • Driving Licence
  • PTS
  • Fire Training
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Depot /Yard Inductions
  • Basic Laser Safety
  • COSS
Key Responsibilities
  • Operating or maintaining the machine safely and effectively, as instructed by the Grinding or Maintenance Supervisor.
  • 2nd man / fire watch duties on grinding operation
  • Reporting any machine defects to Grinding or Maintenance Supervisor, where appropriate.
  • Collating the data output from the machine where applicable.
  • To work safely and effectively to Colas Rail Services Operations procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining quality systems, machine safety packs and stabling database by continually monitoring, reviewing and making recommendations for updating as required
  • Undertake any other duties if assessed as competent to do so
  • Carry out COSS duties as and when required
  • Daily maintenance duties to include Chipping and Blowing
  • Able to complete daily Work Return Forms
  • Work to applicable Safety Plans and Method Statements.
  • Comply with Section 7 of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
