Join WSP, and you’ll be at the heart of a team of international experts all dedicated to growing and sharing their expertise, and working on projects that transform society for all of us.We are looking to expand our successful transport planning and mobility team in the Middle East in light of the rapidly increasing number of projects and opportunities, with the appointment of a Technical Director to join WSP’s transport planning and mobility team in Abu Dhabi to support our public and private sector clients on their ambitious and innovative transport projects. Projects could involve sustainable urban development, transport policy and strategy development, transport network/ master planning, multi modal studies, mobility strategy implementation plans, zero emission mobility, using human-centred design to inform successful behaviour change interventions.You will need to be someone who can use critical thinking to deeply understand client’s problems before solutionising and be comfortable developing bespoke approaches to reducing uncertainty. You will lead, plan and deliver a range of transport planning projects working with multidiscipline delivery teams and multiple stakeholders using a passionate approach to understand everything that is changing within transport. You will be competent in technical delivery and commercial excellence, meeting budget, programme and technical standards.You will be joining a fast growing, highly innovative and creative team, working on projects in Abu Dhabi and across the Middle East region. Your new role, what's involved?
  • Lead the technical delivery of transport planning, mobility strategies, and master planning projects from concept through execution.
  • Provide strategic leadership and technical direction to project teams to ensure excellence, innovation, and client satisfaction.
  • Act as the primary technical advisor and subject matter expert on projects, ensuring alignment with international best practices, sustainability principles, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., urban planners, transport engineers, environmental specialists) to integrate transport solutions into larger masterplans.
  • Drive the development of sustainable and smart mobility strategies with a focus on reducing congestion, enhancing connectivity, and promoting alternative transport modes.
  • Oversee quality assurance and control, ensuring all deliverables meet client expectations and technical standards.
  • Support business development initiatives, including bidding, proposal writing, and client engagement for transport and mobility projects.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop a high-performing technical team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Represent the company as a technical leader at industry events, conferences, and forums.
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, Urban Mobility, or related field; a Master's degree is highly desirable.
  • 20+ years of experience in transport planning, mobility, and transport master planning, with at least 5-8 years in a leadership or technical director role.
  • Extensive experience working in the Middle East region, particularly on large-scale urban development and infrastructure projects in Abu Dhabi.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex, multi-disciplinary projects to the highest standards within budget and timelines.
  • Strong knowledge of international best practices in sustainable transport, urban mobility, and smart city solutions.
  • Experience dealing with uncertainty and have the ability to be flexible and adaptable to a working environment that is evolving in nature, and requires varied project work and client demands.
  • Proficiency in transport planning software tools (e.g., VISUM, CUBE, VISSIM, SYNCHRO, or similar).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships, drive technical innovation, and support business growth.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Someone who has team leadership skills and can mentor others through performance management and training and development.
