You will be part of a team responsible for ensuring the Council's decision making processes are robust and work effectively.You will work closely with all elected members including the Leader of the Council as well as senior officers, providing administrative support to Full Council, Cabinet, Scrutiny Committees and Regulatory Committees.The role is perfect for anyone interested in politics and is a great opportunity for someone looking to start a career in Local Government. Democratic Services undertake a wide variety of functions and there will be opportunities to explore developments in IT systems, policy development and research as well as support to Councillors.Responsibilities:
  • To undertake administrative duties including production and dispatch of agendas, production of Decision Notices, the development of the committee minute management system, tracking systems, assisting with members payroll systems, training programme and schedule of dates lists.
  • To develop and maintain effective administrative processes to support the Council’s decision-making function including minutes, nameplates, stationary, room bookings and printing.
  • To assist in the development of a Report Management System and ensuring compliance with internal governance processes.
  • To undertake research and analysis to identify improvements and best practice in relation to all aspects of Democratic Services.
  • To support and assist with the livestreaming and webcasting of meetings to the City Council’s website and to contribute to the development and use of social media in highlighting decision-making and local democracy in Liverpool.
  • To support with the delivery of the Member Learning and Development programme including arranging training sessions
What You’ll Need:
  • 5 GCSE’s/NVQ Level 3 in administration or equivalent
  • Advanced IT skills with competent knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office including Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Ability to work in a political environment and adopt a politically sensitive approach
  • Ability to communicate to a high level both orally and in writing
This is a politically restricted post as set out in the main provisions of Part 1 of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 (section 2)(as amended).
