POSITION: Math Mindset Summer Camp Teachers (For students entering 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grade)LOCATION: Westview ElementaryQUALIFICATIONS: Valid Michigan Teaching CertificateExemplary experience in teaching middle school mathematicsMust attend training at MISDEnthusiastic, Energetic, Positive, ProfessionalExperience with English Language Learner studentsExperience with online learning/software preferred;Preferred participation in a Number Talks training at the Macomb ISDDESCRIPTION: This program is designed for students who believe mathematics is not their strength. Our goal is to communicate the new brain research to math students and teach them through an approach that is open, creative, and visual. The term “growth mindset” comes from the work of Carol Dweck. The curriculum is based on a model used at Stanford University with 81 students with a wide range of achievement levels. Students in the study demonstrated 1.6 years of growth after 18 days of instruction.”RESPONSIBILITIES: Staff will be responsible for facilitating the MISD summer Math Mindset program as designed; provide effective instructional methods based on a daily schedule outlined in training; administer pre- and post- assessments; submit attendance records; plan appropriate instruction to support diverse student needs.SCHEDULE: July 1 - August 1, Monday - Thursday (No session on Thursday, July 4, 2024);Staff hours: 5 hours per day, 4 days per week / daily schedule set by the Summer School Site Director.Student Hours: 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., Monday - ThursdayOne day prior to summer school 4 hours will be used at teacher/site director discretion to help set up classrooms or attend training.SALARY: $40 per hourADDITIONAL INFO: All staff are required to attend a mandatory paid in-person training: Monday, June 17 (8:30-3:00pm)REPORTS TO: Summer School Principal/AdministratorPosition will be filled based upon student enrollment, teacher certification and program experience.
