- RCMP Island District Headquarters, the District Headquarters for the RCMP on Vancouver Island
- Is a 24/7/365 site with one Cmre per shift
- High profile site with visitors often including Chiefs of Police, government officials, RCMP upper management, Crown and Defence attorneys, and the like
- Despite being a Police Headquarters, the site is very people oriented and a brusk, militaristic attitude will not be successful (or desired) here
- Full time position, 72 – 80 hours per pay period
- Alternating shift pattern: 5 on/2 off and 5 on/3 off
- All shifts are 8 hrs and rotate 1 week of Afternoons followed by 1 week of Nights
- Weekends and holidays are included, depending on how your schedule falls
- One exterior walking patrol per hour
- One – two interior walking/stairs patrol per shift
- Use of computerized CCVE system
- Use of desktop PC for emails, logs and document production
- Access control using security cameras, intercoms and remote locking devices
- Standard security responsibilities for a site in a less-than-desirable neighbourhood
- Good computer skills including email, document production and storage, and working on a large network
- Experience and comfort working with a computerized CCVE system
- Able to work the rotating shift pattern long term without physical or emotion issue
- Freely able to walk and/or use stairs without physical duress
- Good report writing skills
- Superior dress and deportment
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Able to speak and write in English fluently on an intelligent level
- Has a solid history of responsible work habits and performance as a Cmre
- Able to obtain RCMP Reliability and Public Works Reliability Clearance (RCMP Clearance can take 4 – 6 months to obtain).
- Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak in English.
- Vision: Visual standards are RCMP-V4 (eyeglasses permitted).
- Able to bend at the waist and climb stairs without restrictions or the use of assistive devices.
- Mobility Standards: Able to use both hands, occasionally manipulate/lift up to 20 kilograms, bend at the waist and climb stairs without restrictions or the use of assistance devices.
- Basic level computer skills.
- Ability to remain in control under trying conditions.
- Ability to be discrete.
- Work effectively with other people.
- Willingness to undergo detention guard training as required, including Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) training and refresher on a semi-annual basis.
- Ability to work independently.
