DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE, Literature Section, to serve as Literature’s senior operations administrator. Will oversee day-to-day and strategic administration, including human resources, finance, facilities, communications, research administration finance, events planning, and general operational management; provide counsel and support to the department head, faculty, students, and staff regarding all administrative policy matters; work with the section heads on faculty searches and promotions, long- and short-range planning, and initiatives to improve program visibility; ensure the department is appropriately staffed and that work is completed consistent with department guidelines and objectives; and support a positive and inclusive culture. REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; five years' experience in an administrative, executive, or management position in a university/hospital/nonprofit; experience managing direct and indirect staff; demonstrated leadership skills; experience managing complex change and conflicting priorities; good judgment, diplomacy, and discretion with sensitive/confidential matters; excellent interpersonal, supervisory, problem-solving, coaching, goal-setting, decision-making, analytical, organizational, project management and written and oral communication skills; knowledge of financial and research administration in an academic/research environment with federal/corporate/foundation sponsors; and proficiency with Microsoft Office, modern financial and HR information systems, and database software. Must be able to promote team-building and facilitate consensus; integrate new concepts/practices/guidelines/policies and emerging technologies into strategic planning and new business methods; collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students; manage and prioritize multiple conflicting and changing priorities and meet deadlines; and handle details while maintaining a view of the big picture. PREFERRED: MIT experience; background in any humanities field; experience with SAP, BrioQuery/Cognos, COEUS, KC, Atlas, Roles Database, and QuickBase; and experience advancing organizational development, culture, and strategy, including diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
