Senior Manager of Jewish Education at Michigan HillelThe University of Michigan Hillel is looking for a Senior Manager of Jewish Education to join our team who will bring enthusiasm for engaging students, passion for Jewish experiential education, and a commitment to building a pluralistic Jewish community. The Senior Manager of Jewish Education is responsible for supporting and growing Jewish educational opportunities on campus, inspiring and advising groups like our Reform community, our pluralistic Shabbat program, and social justice-oriented programming. They will develop and teach educational content to diverse communities, and engage in 1:1 conversations that help invite students to explore meaningful ways to engage in Jewish life and connect with Jewish community.What You'll Do
  • Build relationships with many students from diverse backgrounds through meaningful conversations, and by creating connections to opportunities in Jewish life on campus.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Rabbi and Assistant Director to identify Jewish educational needs of students not currently being served, and proactively create new opportunities to meet those needs.
  • Develop students' Jewish literacy and empowerment through regularly scheduled Jewish learning opportunities that span diverse backgrounds, interests, and multiple Jewish perspectives. This includes working with other staff to develop and implement relevant educational content for fellowships and programs.
  • Lead teaching of pre-developed content (Jewish Learning Fellowship)
  • Deepen student leadership engagement with pluralism around Shabbat and other Hillel-wide programming.
  • Be an accessible and approachable figure on campus, proactively meeting and developing student relationships, including those not previously engaged with Hillel.
  • Advise and empower students individually and in established student groups to participate in social justice work on campus, and explore justice values through a Jewish lens.
  • Advise and help create vibrant ritual life for the Reform community on campus.
What You'll Bring to the Job
  • 4-7 years experience in Jewish educational setting; an advanced degree or rabbinic ordination is preferred. Experience working with young adults desired.
  • A commitment to creating an inclusive, vibrant, and pluralistic Jewish community
  • Creative problem-solving, proactive communication, and ability to collaborate across a large Hillel Staff.
  • Authentic Jewish expression - a willingness to share your Jewish values and practice with students in appropriate and accessible ways.
  • A good knowledge base of Jewish content. This ranges from traditional Jewish texts to contemporary Jewish wisdom, culture and unconventional Jewish sources. You can frame and illuminate contemporary experience through Torah.
  • Genuine excitement and infectious passion for celebrating Jewish rituals and festivals.
  • You love discovering new opportunities to impact religious life and learning and you are not afraid to take calculated risks to further your mission. You have a track record of innovation.
  • Proactivity. You take initiative to get things done or make things happen, without having to be asked.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. You are an effective communicator and a great listener. You are instinctively curious about others and people enjoy talking to you. You have an outgoing personality and love meeting new people. You are comfortable and confident in crowds.
  • Service leading and musical ability are desirable but not required.
  • Experience in Reform community settings is desirable.
