DescriptionThese positions are responsible for performing roadway maintenance work, roadway striping, grass cutting, tree trimming and snow removal. The Maintenance Worker/Driver I will work out of an assigned District located throughout St. Louis County. Training to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (Class A CDL) will be provided during the initial period of employment.There are openings for full time positions. The work schedule will be typically Monday - Friday 7:00 - 3:30 with mandatory 12 hour snow shifts. The starting salary for the Maintenance Worker I will be $18.20 per hour. The Maintenance Driver I position which requires a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will have a starting salary of $18.80 per hour.   • Repair and replace asphalt roadways and surfaces by: performing asphalt patching and crack sealing; preparing and compacting ground/surfaces for paving; repairing cave-ins, depressions, potholes and blow ups and striping roads.
  • Maintain, repair or install concrete structures or surfaces by: assembling, setting, and knocking down concrete forms; mixing, pouring, texturing and finishing concrete.
  • Care for and propagate plant life by: planting and maintaining flowers, shrubs and trees; mowing, raking and manicuring grounds; cutting and hauling away dead trees, stumps and shrubs; sowing grass or laying sod; trimming trees, hedges and shrubs.
  • Perform mandatory snow duty by removing hazardous snow and ice conditions by: identifying areas requiring snow and ice removal, applying salt and other chemicals, using a truck with plow or other tools to clear roadways, driveways and parking lots.
  • Perform administrative tasks associated with the work by: monitoring supply levels and ensuring the availability of tools and supplies for a designated area, facilitating the work efforts of another employee or work group, training employees on maintenance techniques, safety procedures, vehicle and equipment operation and new product use.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
EQUIPMENT USED:(Illustrative examples) 1 ton dump truck, automobile, van, light truck: chain saw, drills, forklift, grinder, highlift, jackhammer, and various hand tools; riding and push mowers, trimmer, measures and levels.WORKING CONDITIONS Balance, bend at waist; climb or work on ladders and stairs; exposure to dust/dirt, fumes, and hazardous materials; kneel, lift, push/pull, reach above shoulders, squat, stand/walk for long periods; work out of doors in extreme temperatures.Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED with a current, valid driver's license without driving restrictions. Prefer Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).Additional InformationApplicants for this position must be physically able and willing to perform hard manual labor, work under poor conditions, be able to work overtime, possess a valid driver's license and their own transportation (public transportation is not available to most work locations) and have a safe driving record for the past three years.SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above.Responses provided to the interview questions listed under the Supplemental Question heading of this posting will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment.
