Role SummaryThe School of Education seeks to appoint an Associate Professor in Neurodiversity with particular specialism in Dyslexia. This post will contribute across the School's undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes, including supporting the Dyslexia and Literacy Difficulties (AMBDA) and MA Inclusion programmes. The successful candidate will be located in the School's Department of Disability, Inclusion and Special Needs (DISN). DISN is the largest education provider in disability education in the Europe, and sector leading in the field of inclusion and special needs, being the only professional development provider for all statutory Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in the UK. Central to the department is our world ranking research which has real life impact. Through conducting interdisciplinary research we continue to tackle social injustice, challenge misconceptions about disability and work to campaign vociferously to remove barriers to learning and employment.You will contribute at a senior level to teaching, research, and administration. In addition you will be expected to contribute to academic citizenship, likely to be demonstrated through generous, mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all staff and students.Teaching is likely to include a substantial contribution to: (a) the management, development (including programme/module review) and delivery of teaching and assessment; and (b) enhancement of the student experience or employability. The role will typically also involve developing and advising others, including: (a) providing expert advice to staff and students, (b) supervising and examining PhD students, and (c) developing and advising others on learning and teaching tasks and methods. Due to the nature of our programmes, teaching will occasionally take place during evenings and weekends.Research is likely to involve an established national and international reputation through significant original research work and a clear record of impact.Management and administration is likely to include Departmental/School leadership and management activity with University wide involvement - for example through sustained high value research, knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, and public engagement or similar activities.Person Specification
  • Normally, a higher degree relevant to the research/teaching area (usually PhD) or equivalent qualifications.
  • Associate Member of British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA) with current assessment practicing certificate (or prepared to work towards this on commencement of role).
  • Eligible for Chartered Membership with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
  • Demonstrated excellence in at least Research, with competence in Learning and Teaching and Management and Administration.
