Location : Birmingham (B3 2HJ), United Kingdom Job AdvertSenior Design Delivery ManagerLocation: HS2 – Curzon St. StationDepartment: Design & Engineering TeamPost Reports To: Lead Design ManagerJob summaryThe Senior Design Manager leads on behalf of the Lead Design Manager all aspects of the design, including coordination, submission, compliance, programming and management of design, engineering and assurance, maintaining and updating the DMP (WI300) for the Curzon station aspects of the HS2 Curzon project. The Senior Design Manager liaises with the Principal Designer, HS2 Ltd, and manages, coordinates, integrates and certifies on behalf of the Lead Design Manager, that the works for the new Curzon station works have been constructed in accordance with the design.Key responsibilities * Maintain an uncompromising commitment to safety, and collaborate with Principal Designer HS2 Ltd.
  • Protection of Design Vision and Employer’s Objectives
  • Ensure culture and behaviours meet HS2 Construction Partner Objectives in collaboration with all parties, as described in WI830 (Collaboration).
  • Ensure exemplary quality and sustainability standards.
  • Participate in audits and surveillance of project design process.
  • Support and encourage the implementation of solutions to reduce the carbon footprint.
Scope, Deliverables and Programme * Coordinate the design delivery including technical assurance, ensuring scope is packaged to support construction programme, and deliverables are issued in accordance with the programme.
  • Coordinate scope definition process to ensure scope is clearly defined as per agreed list of content, agreed by all parties (Designer, CP and HS2), and packaged to support construction programme.
  • Overview the management of GETs by the Design Managers.
Collaboration and Coordination * Coordinate the design packages to achieve a safe, buildable, operational and maintainable asset.
  • Actively create an environment of collaboration and engagement with SDSC and HS2, in particular with the DMs, PMs and the PEs allocated to each design packages.
  • Overview and Coordinate Communications with SDSC, HS2 and 3rd Parties
  • Develop an approach to design driven by value and collaborative working with the Design team, Construction team and the supply chain.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day work of Design Managers.
  • Liaise and coordinate with the Design Managers, and Assurance Manager.
  • Overview engagement with HS2 and third parties and monitor ICDs & AIDDs are produced and maintained.
Review and Assurance process * Ensure the package level design reviews and coordinated by the Design Managers
  • Review major Assurance deliverables for sign off, or deliver to Lead Design Manager / Technical Assurance Manager.
  • Ensure key technical documents are reviewed and accepted by appropriate colleagues.
Risks, Assumptions, Escalation Process & Change Management * Ensure that design issues are identified by the Design Managers, escalated and resolved efficiently.
  • Take ownership of risk reporting and risk mitigation.
  • Coordinate Design Change Control process and progress changes initiated by the Design Managers.
Requirements Management * Ensure compliance with Project Requirements and Works Information.Risks, Assumptions, Escalation Process & Change Management * Ensure TIDPs (CP, SDSC and others) compliance and take accountability for overarching MIDPs to HS2.Interface Management * Endure design package interfaces with other designers are managed by the Design Managers.
  • Ensure design interfaces with third parties are addressed.

  • Have excellent communication skills (including presentation skills) in English, both written and verbal and the ability to report at both Project and Board level.
  • Ability to manage teams of people in a multi-disciplinary environment. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan ahead and manage own time.

Qualifications, Certifications & Experience
  • Experience within a similar role within an appropriately sized engineering organisation.
  • Educated to degree or higher level or equivalent in a numerate discipline, typically Engineering discipline (or related). A lower educational level, typically HNC or HND, may be acceptable where a very significant level of experience in a senior technical engineering role can be demonstrated.
  • Membership of an appropriate Professional body, typically Chartered member of Institute of Civil Engineering or an international equivalent professional status.
