Position Title:Teacher, Paterson Family CenterEmployment Category:Exempt, Full-TimeFunction:The Teacher implements a high quality early childhood education curriculum to meet the needs of children as mandated by the New Jersey Supreme Court in Abbott v. Burke.Reports to:Director, Paterson Family CenterSupervises:Teacher Assistants, PFC support staffQualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • New Jersey Certificate of Eligibility in Preschool through Grade 3 Instruction (P3)
  • Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized and motivated. Self-starter. Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plans and implements day-to-day curriculum for children assigned to his/her classroom.
  • Organizes and maintains the classroom equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Monitors the needs of individual children and maintains communication with Director regarding the progress, accomplishments and needs of each child.
  • Supervises Teacher Assistant assigned to the classroom.
  • Attends and assists children during field trips.
  • Manages classroom setup and decoration.
  • Keeps classroom and storage areas clean, neat and safe.
  • Keeps Director informed of program needs including making appropriate and timely requests for supplies and materials in conjunction with the curriculum.
  • Distributes meals and snacks to children and participates in children’s meal times.
  • Provides input to family workers and families for individual conferences with parents regarding their child’s education. Attends conferences if requested to do so.
  • Keeps parents informed of school news and activities.
  • Meets with Director to report on program status and needs, and any special needs or challenges of individual children or concerns of parents.
  • Reports to Director any suspected or known cases of child abuse or neglect.
  • Attends at least 8 hours of continuing education seminars/workshops per school year.
  • Understands and adheres to Center policies and procedures as per NJCDC, Paterson Public Schools, and the New Jersey Department of Children and Families.
  • Participates in staff meetings.
  • Maintains professional manner and appearance at all times.
