Position Summary:Reporting to the Team Lead of Infrastructure, Data Centre, and Cloud, the Senior Data Centre Technical Support Specialist is responsible for overseeing the integrity of operating systems software/hardware, servers, peripheral equipment, and application/platform support within the College Data Centre. The incumbent manages administrative systems operations, resolves issues, analyzes performance, plans capacity, deploys new systems, and extends support to other specialists. In collaboration with the Data Centre manager and the Support Team, they establish and sustain infrastructure for both College staff and students. Operating as a senior resource, they contribute technical expertise and supervise projects for intermediate staff. They also conduct system tests, evaluates performance, proactively addresses issues, and proposes enhancements to facilitate system expansion.Responsibilities:Operations Support
  • Provides support for systems operating systems and hardware, ensuring services are running within acceptable limits.
  • Supports servers and equipment.
  • Assists with virtualization software.
  • Manages messaging and communication services and applications.
  • Oversees data storage units.
  • Offers support for IT infrastructure services, including but not limited to Directories, DNS, DHCP, NTP, and Radius.
  • Manages system backup and recovery.
  • Provides database support.
  • Offers assistance with application and systems support.
  • Supports web servers.
Project Support
  • Participates in the planning and execution of projects.
  • Evaluates the required assigned tasks and submits the estimates to complete the effort.
  • Plans project work packages and leads teams of resources.
  • Reviews and validates work efforts completed by intermediate staff.
  • Assists in the training and support of new and intermediate resources.
Performance Management and Administration of System Hardware and Software Support
  • Monitors Data Centre processing operations to ensure performance stays within acceptable limits.
  • Analyzes performance and makes appropriate action recommendations.
  • Installs and updates server operating systems and hardware components.
  • Monitors Data Centre resources, including power management, cooling, and floor space.
  • Coordinates vendor activities.
  • Sets up, configures, and tunes servers.
  • Manages documentation.
Systems Software and Hardware Planning
  • Evaluates software update notices, including planning scheduled updates with impact analysis, recovery planning, and testing.
  • Coordinates scheduled hardware updates and installations.
  • System Security Management Support
  • Sets up and maintains directory control.
  • Supports ITS security initiatives.
  • Applies security policies to Seneca data assets.
  • Reviews logs for unauthorized access and usage.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of technical training for specific computer-related equipment or application and systems support.
Experience
  • Eight (8) years of experience providing security systems and software support for multi–Operating System platforms.
