This is an exciting new opportunity for a breast consultant to support with the provision of local breast services at both Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. Due to the growing demand of the service, we welcome candidates who wish to become part of a fast paced team focused on improving, developing and supporting breast diagnostic and treatment pathways for our patients. Candidates who have previous breast experience, or a desire to specialise in breast services, are welcomed to apply.The Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Breast Unit provides comprehensive breast care management as a secondary and tertiary provider. The Trust carries out primary breast procedures, reconstructions, revision and complex surgery for the 600+ new cancers we diagnose and treat each year. An open access follow up programme has been well established and new innovative research opportunities supported.Main duties of the jobTo participate in clinical and other service activities and developments with the aim of ensuring a high standard of patient care across the Trust.To work in close co-operation with other medical, professional and managerial colleagues, both within and outside the specialty, to provide high quality health care to the Trust's patients, and to make a contribution to future thinking about the Trust's strategic direction.About usMaidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital Trust in the county of Kent.The Trust provides a full range of general hospital services and some areas of specialist complex care to around 760,000 people living in the south part of West Kent and the north part of East Sussex.The Trust's core catchment areas are Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and their surrounding boroughs. Job responsibilitiesThe Breast Unit maintains an active research programme, recruiting patients to NIHR portfolio trials as well as running novel research projects and clinical trials collaborating with The University of Kent at Canterbury, Imperial College London and Warwick Clinical Trials Unit.The 5 substantive breast consultants offer a full repertoire of breast procedures including advanced breast conservation and reconstructive breast surgery.The time commitment will be approximately 10 PAs per week, made up of 8.5 DPAs and 1.5 SPAs. SPA time can be used for activities supporting research, professional development, and the service, which include teaching, audit, mandatory training and additional responsibilities.Person Specification

Essential
  • Full GMC Registration
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Entry on the Specialist Register as a clinical oncologist or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the advisory appointments committee
Desirable
  • Higher Qualification in Medicine or Surgery
  • Research degree (MD/PhD)
  • Clinical Experience in relevant tumour sites
Experience
Essential
  • Clinical Training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in specialty
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Desirable
  • Experience in Clinical Audit and Research.
  • Experience in medical education

  • Enthusiasm for developing tumour site specialisation and Cancer Services in Kent
  • Ability to organise and manage
